Very nice afternoon at Hopkins Vineyard today, music and generally nice festivities. If looking for a home base for training /parking, especially early in the day, (on any other morning than Sat July 13th PLEASE) you may. Support the Winery too, they appreciate it. Saturday July 13th is the race date this year.

The Pat Griskus Triathlons have been accepted once again as the CT State Championship race for the Olympic Distance, the Sprint will serve as the High School Championship on Saturday July 15th, 2024.

Racing for fun also encouraged, no need to concern yourself with vying for top spots or rankings!

The Lake Waramaug Ultra Marathon will be held tomorrow April 28th, if anyone happens to be around; 6:30am start for longest distances.

It's pretty cool to watch the leaders in the 100k/62 Miler do their thing, as well as for the rest of the bunch!... I'm simply supporting.

There should be room enough to park at the Washington Town Beach during the event if you'd like to drop by. Hopkins Vineyard hosting runners afterwards with some good live music too!

Many a thriving Farmer, Manufacturer, Shopkeeper etc, walked away from their families and businesses to fight for our Independence. Just one of the many reasons I love www.HopkinsVineyard.com , a very direct lineage in the way of Elijah Hopkins circa 1787. 🇺🇸 Join the festivities on July 4th, maybe do a practice ride and run, parking at the Vineyard. No swim on race course, sorry, private beach other than race day Sat July 15th. There is the Lake Waramaug State Park though!

Our Swim Course Director David Heller will be running 2 pre Griskus Open Water swims at QSC https://www.qsailingcenter.org/ This sunday June 4th and Saturday June 10th, 9am. $30 gets you both days, or $20 each session. April is a unique month for its special light. Consider that this is roughly the same sun angle we'll have in September, but with
no leaves on the trees, yet. We'll only have this for a few weeks, this very crisp, clear, bright light. Hoping many of you are enjoying

Fire Pit Friday nights are always a nice time, the Winery stays open a bit later and makes for a nice transition to dining at the Hopkins Inn too. Hope to see you!

JUST GOT WORD at 5:30pm - Too windy for a FirePit outing tonight, Hopkins Vineyard closing at 6pm. Hopkins Inn will be open with their deck open. Sorry for the late notice, it will be ongoing every other Friday during October.

Checked, and re-checked. I'll estimate that the actual temp moved up to 60degrees. Yes, it happens that quickly. Thermometer actually read 68, but likely a favorable current of warm water affected the reading. Bunch of kids at the Washington Town Beach were playing in the water without wetsuits, and they seemed to be doing fine.

Shorter story: all should be fine to get in some open water swim training in whatever lake you have available, Lake Waramaug sits up kind of high and it was an impressive progression in water temps throughout the week. Nothing wrong with good old fashioned pool swimming either. Good luck all, just looking to keep you informed!

Current water temp is 56 degrees measured off the Hopkins Vineyard Triathlon start dock. I'll check it again on Friday, just you wait, it's surprising how quick water temps come up! Same for Lake Quassapaug, I'll get some readings there too re PatGriskusTri.com

The Hopkins Vineyard is looking forward to hosting you, they appreciate your general good cheer and cooperativeness. Just know, the race is nearly half full, meaning about 100 slots left.

I'll check in again with what this gorgeous week brings to the water temps. Also, the bike course will be around the lake, working on getting the course map updated. Course coverage issues, but it's a tough run course. Considering awards for fastest swim/bike/run splits. Keep up the training!
