Afterschool Elementary Art began today! Welcome to our new friends. We began with a short guided meditation to help calm our minds and bodies and transition to art class. We meditated in the steps it takes to build a snowman. The class had their choice of media to make their meditation come to life, complete with salt and glitter as the "snow".

Tween Monday afterschool began yesterday! We got to know each other and worked on a "I Am..." Spiral. Students had the choice of using watercolor pencils watercolor palettes and combining watercolor with glue and salt.

Watch for a Tween MLK Day class to be posted, as a couple of our new students will be leading the class next week making Dragon hand puppets! We will have class from 4-6, snacks and drinks will be provided.

What a rejuvenating and upbeat Yoga Retreat led by Yoga Retreat for Women of Color (TM) with Maya Breuer today. Our art component focused on first setting a specific intention for the next 2 - 3 months. Then, choosing from a wide variety of art materials and frames/shoeboxes, we arranged words, images and symbols, etc... to create a composition we can continue to meditate on.

SAVE THE DATE! Maya will offer her next yoga retreat on Sunday March 23. Registration and details will be posted at the beginning of March.

In the meantime, please do yourself a favor and try one of Maya's chair yoga classes!

Sam resumed private instruction on Friday afternoon. She began an original composition for an art contest with the theme of "Winter Through My Eyes". She chose to paint a scene of a wild horse running through the snow at night under a full moon. Beautiful!

If you want evidence the world is a terrible place, watch the news, and surf the web. If you want to remember how incredible this planet is, go out into nature. Unlike social media and the news, nature has no incentive to keep us agitated, angry, and anxious.
