Are you planning a destination wedding? Here are a few a my top planning tips!

💛Check local marriage requirements

Different countries have different paperwork requirements like birth certificates, letters of intent, proof of residency, etc. In many cases it may be easier to have a civil ceremony before hand.

💛Make sure your passports are up to date WELL ahead of your wedding day.

Renewing or getting a new passport can take 6 to 9 weeks so make sure you plan accordingly.

💛Check an extra suitcase

In the states couples can often bring lots of their own DIY decor items. But this can be difficult when planning a wedding overseas. Shipping and customs costs are expensive, time consuming, and unreliable. Plan to check an extra suitcase stuffed full of those personal decor items!

💛Let your credit card company know you’re traveling

The last thing you want is to get hit with a declined card at the last hour. So let your credit card company know your travel plans and bring some cash (in the local currency) just in case.

💛Consider purchasing wedding insurance

For destination weddings it will protect your investment just in case plans change. Plus it gives you overall peace of mind.

💛Of course, last but not least, hire a professional planner!

This way, instead of spending hours on phone calls finalizing small details, trying to overcome a language barrier, dealing with the inevitable slow responses from local vendors, or making executive decisions from miles away, you have an expert taking care of it all for you so you and your guests can arrive stress free! However, if a planner isn't in your budget, look for a resort with a strong and responsive on-site coordinator.

Fun fact: 70% of people say that the sight and smell of flowers improves their overall mood. So if you’re not sure if you want to include florals in your corporate style event, take this as your sign to 100% do it!

Your guests will not only appreciate it but they will likely have a better time, remember the event well into the future, and be more likely to recommend your event to others.

Take this simple floral spray arrangement at the base of this speaking podium. It enhanced and softened the look and feel of this event and created a more elegant and relaxed vibe. Which overall gave the whole event a more welcoming feel.

Celebrating a small milestone today of making it to 100 followers! Thank you all for your support and since we have a few new faces I thought I’d introduce myself again!

My name is Kendra and I’m the owner of Dovely Event Planning. I’ve been doing event planning for friends and family for about 5 years now but I finally made the leap this year to launch my official business.

A few fun facts about me:

Dovely is inspired by my grandpa who I was very close to and who unfortunately passed away this year. But he always encouraged me to “live a great life” and so I am on a mission to do exactly that by doing what I love, which just so happens to be Event planning!

I absolutely love to travel! I have a destination wedding scheduled for 2023 in Jamaica which I am soooo excited for. My absolute favorite place is Italy so if anyone out there is looking for a dreamy, romantic Italian wedding I would LOVE to help 😍

I am a dog mom to the sweetest cutest little 12 pound Bichon Frise named Mazie who for sure thinks she’s way more ferocious than she is lol

I was born and raised in Northern California but have been living and working in the Virginia / DC area for over 10 years now and let me tell you time sure does fly!

I love supporting and collaborating with other local vendors and small businesses. I’m a big believer that there is enough success to go around for everyone so I’m all for collaboration over competition any day!

Pro tip for saving money on your wedding day floral arrangements - anytime you can repurpose your ceremony flowers to be used for your reception, 100% do it! Not only will it save you money, but it will also allow you to enjoy all those beautiful flowers longer.

Do you have large arrangements framing the back of your aisle? Reuse them in front of your head table during the reception or as accents around your dance floor!

Did you have an elaborate arch for your ceremony? Bring that into your reception space to use behind your sweetheart table or dessert table to really make your photos pop!

Did you use candles along your aisle? Bring those in and place them throughout your guest tables for added ambiance and romantic vibes!

You have so many amazing options when it comes to decor, so definitely consider these ideas to get the most bang for your buck.

This one is for all our non-traditional brides out there! We love an unconventional dress and even more so we love originality.

Who says the bride has to be dressed in all white? There is no cookie-cutter approach to your wedding day so why should the approach to what you choose to wear be any different? What looks “bridal” is determined 100% by you so say I do in whatever makes you feel your absolute best. Whether it’s a bright and colorful dress, a jumpsuit, a skirt and crop top, sparkle and bedazzle overload… there are absolutely no rules and the sky is the limit!

It’s becoming more and more common for brides to ditch the classic white wedding dress in favor of something more unique. Your wedding day is all about you, so wear whatever your heart desires. 🥰🥰
