The world has lost a literary giant. Nikki Giovanni, renowned poet, activist, and educator, has passed away at the age of 81. Through her profound words and fearless voice, she captured the essence of Black pride, love, and resilience, becoming a cornerstone of the Black Arts Movement. Her works, from Black Feeling, Black Talk to Ego-Tripping, inspired generations to embrace their identity unapologetically.

Beyond her poetry, Nikki was a cherished professor and mentor, shaping minds for decades at Virginia Tech. She leaves behind a legacy of empowerment, creativity, and unshakable courage. Rest in peace, Nikki Giovanni—your words will echo forever🕊
