For our New Lo Mein Lady family:

Meet Chef Africa Lynn, the Lo Mein Lady.

The LoMein Lady was born to a loving American family who proudly served in the US Air Force in Frankfurt, Germany, where she was born. She was brought home to America and raised in Washington, DC, from four months old.

The LoMein lady completed her culinary training at M.M. Washington Career Senior High School in 2003.

Chef Africa has served as a line cook at the District ChopHouse and Brewery in Washington, D.C., and banquet chef at Jillian’s in Duluth, GA. Chef Africa also has catered weddings, birthdays, and holiday gatherings over the years.

She discovered a lack of passion for sticking to menus and recipes that were not her own.

Chef Africa tried many other talents to see which one fueled her desire to express her creativity.

One day after eating from what used to be her “favorite carry-out,” Chef Africa thought, “Every time I order my favorite dish, Lo Mein noodles, from this or any carry-out in this city, I get sick. I wonder why this is.“

It wasn’t until she saw a cook at a Chinese Carryout drop her food on the floor and proceed to put it back on the tray that it all made sense.

She realized, “These carry-outs earn most of their money in these urban communities from struggling black families, but they don’t care about the quality of food, ingredients, and sanitation they serve us.”

The LoMein Lady is answering, “Can we have quality Chinese food that tastes good?“

The answer is “YES!”

We can enjoy food we have enjoyed for many years but in a clean and caring environment with fresh food, quality ingredients, and much love.
