Eat & Smile Catering

Eat & Smile Catering Eat and Smile is DC's original locavore caterer, working with clients since 2007 to make memorable events: Locally Sourced & Exquisitely Made!

Serving delicious food since 2007, Eat & Smile Catering is proud to be the first locally sourced caterer in the Washington DC area, supporting local farmers, bakers, fisherfolk, and other producers within a 150 mile radius whenever possible. We believe that high quality local foods are more ecologically friendly, economically sustainable, better for you, and taste fantastic. We work hard to incorp

orate sustainable business practices beyond just our ingredient sourcing. We use biodegradable and compostable cups, cutlery, and plates when necessary, compost our kitchen and event food waste, recycle our fryer oil into biodiesel, and source our commercial kitchen’s electricity from renewable energy sources. In addition, we pay our great staff a living wage, and provide health care for our full-time employees despite the small size of our business. All staff, both full-time and part-time, are encouraged to carpool, bike, and take public transport to work and events. The mark of true success for us is when both our clients and our team members are happy!

Hello everyone! We are looking for event servers, bartenders, & chefs! We pay a minimum of $25 an hour and you can select which events you want to work. If you are interested please go to our website www.eatandsmilecatering.com and send us a message.

Since 2007, our goal is to create an incredible client experience while maintaining our high standards for ecological sustainability and local sourcing of ingredients. Rather than have set packages that include services you don’t want or need, we provide our services a la carte, allowing you to p...

I took a long hiatus from Instagram, focusing on new projects (like the “Rock the Casbah” pop up at .dc on for the next two weeks - call 202.248.4558 starting at noon to place your order), and helping my kids who are having a rough time with quarantine and covid.
When George Floyd was murdered, we had many conversations with our kids about race, both the generic “everyone is equal” and pointing out the implicit bias that so easily develops through seeing the broken way the world currently works. Getting back on IG to make sure my followers knew I supported wasn’t as big a priority as educating myself and my kids.
But now that I’m back on the ‘gram, I feel it’s my responsibility to make sure everyone who has worked with us knows that we are a company dedicated to equality.
As a white man of privilege that owns a small business, I’ve always taken race, disability, and gender into account in my hiring practices rather than ignoring them. It’s not much, but over the past 14 years the vast majority of our hires have been BIPoCs, women, and disabled people, more often than not making me the only white non-disabled man in the company.
The ampersand in our logo has always meant more than just “and”. It’s been a symbol of inclusivity.
Now it’s time to keep doing the work, keep finding ways to wield my privilege to make a difference however I can. Right now, that means listening and learning.
What are you doing to fight systemic racism?

There’s something so magical about freshly baked bread still warm from the oven.
I’ve been on my bread baking journey for over a decade now. And it’s still a constant exercise in learning and being humbled. Just when I feel like I’ve got it figured out, I discover something new to try.
The thing that keeps me coming back is the endless possibilities within something that at face value seems so simple. Flour, yeast, water, heat. And yet, change in any of these four elements create infinite variations that can often be difficult to replicate.
Have you been baking bread?
Ps don’t forget my pop-up “Rock the Casbah!” At .dc starts TODAY! Call 202.248.4558 starting at noon to place your take out order for some seriously awesome Levant and North African food (if I do say so myself...)

06/29/2020

Don’t miss my next pop up, Rock the Casbah, starting tomorrow at Primrose DC.

The Levant and North African foods have been inspiring me a lot lately, especially as DC is starting its yearly summer grossness. The flavors are bright and light and optimized for hot weather, so using this area to influence my menu was a no-brainer.

Only offering this awesome and underrepresented cuisines for TWO WEEKS so get it while you can! Call 202.248.4558 starting at noon tomorrow (July 1) to place your take out order.

Can’t wait for you to check it out!

Hello internet. I am doing another popup, this time for TWO WHOLE WEEKS, starting Tuesday at Primrose DC

We are calling it Rock the Casbah in a nod to The Clash (my all time favorite band) and because it is a North African & Lebanese focused menu.

Limited quantities each night so start calling 202.248.4558 at noon the day you want some! So excited!
