In my latest blog post, "How to be an Irresistible Speaker: Part 1 – Getting Noticed," I emphasize the importance of understanding the conference platform you want to speak on. This is crucial for several reasons. Firstly, knowing the platform helps you tailor your content to meet the specific needs and expectations of the audience. Each conference has its unique vibe and focus, and aligning your message accordingly can make a significant impact. Additionally, different platforms offer various tools and opportunities for engagement. Understanding these can help you leverage them effectively, whether it's through interactive Q&A sessions, multimedia presentations, or networking opportunities. Dreaming of the Bahamas!

As I sit in my office, my mind drifts to the countless adventures awaiting me on my beloved Caribbean Island, the Bahamas! Three years ago, I celebrated my 50th birthday there, and the memories still bring a smile to my face. Just last month, I had the pleasure of visiting again with The National Society of Black Wedding and Event Professionals, thanks to the incredible Bahamas Ministry of Tourism.

But the excitement doesn't stop there! I'll be back in August, and once more in November to plan a milestone birthday celebration for my dear friend (see photo 2). Looking at these pictures from my birthday celebration, you can see the pure joy this island has brought us. I can't wait to roll out the red carpet for my friend's birthday bash in November and collaborate with some of the most talented and amazing event professionals in Nassau!

Why does February have to be such a fleeting month? Time is soaring by, and it feels like we're already halfway through the year! Does anyone else feel like February cheats us out of precious moments? But amidst its brevity, February shines brightly as it celebrates BLACK HISTORY MONTH!

To me, Black History Month embodies the joy, pride, history, and resilience of my culture. It is the very essence of American culture. This month, I had the honor of planning my first event of 2025—a Black History program hosted by Retired Lieutenant General James (Jim) McCall. This event was a profoundly rich, moving, and enlightening journey through the history of Black individuals in the military, highlighting the trailblazing Black firsts!

Mr. Jim, along with three of his military General friends, shared invaluable history that was beyond imagination. Witnessing four Black Generals who have made monumental contributions to our country was a deeply inspiring experience—history in the making for me! I will share the content once I receive professional photo and video!

Additionally, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to BRIDES magazine for recognizing me in their latest article featuring Black Wedding/Event Professionals to hire for your next event. It was truly an honor to be featured in such a prestigious publication. CONGRATULATIONS to my friends and fellow Black professionals who were also highlighted in this article.

Happy Black History Month, everyone! Let's continue to celebrate and honor the incredible legacy and contributions of Black individuals.

As I reminisce about the incredible journey of planning my huge birthday celebration two years ago, I can't help but feel the excitement all over again! It was essential for me to dive deep into the island's culture, savoring the local food, enjoying the vibrant entertainment, and collaborating with the amazing vendors there.

Planning this unique experience was like orchestrating an unforgettable event for my clients. I meticulously researched reputable vendors on the island, building lasting relationships with them. Navigating customs to bring items from the US was an adventure in itself! Working closely with the venue, I ensured the food was pristine and that our guests received white-glove service during dinner. Every detail had to be pristine, elegant, and unforgettable.

These are the same steps I take when working with clients: understanding their core values, partnering with reliable vendors, and fostering strong relationships.

In just 2 days, I'll be celebrating my 53RD BIRTHDAY! 🎉

As I prepare to embark on another year, I can't help but reflect on how blessed I am to experience life in so many incredible ways. Living life on my own terms has been an empowering journey, and I cherish every moment of it. There will be no big celebration this year...just me pampering myself to the fullest. And going to my favorite place, Nassau! This year, my goal is to travel more and immerse myself in the rich cultures of the world. There's so much to see, learn, and experience, and I can't wait to dive in! Age is just a number, and I still feel as vibrant and young as ever!

This time of year feels like a warm embrace—it's my favorite season because it’s a chance to pause and reflect. Looking back, this year was filled with milestones: some achieved, some attempted, and some still in progress. And you know what? That’s okay. I’m learning to celebrate it all. Hallelujah for God for the courage that "HE" carried me through, for the mountains moved—personally, professionally, and in service to others.

I’ve learned to be my biggest cheerleader and advocate. To inspire myself, to honor my journey, and to show up for the world as my best self. But now, during this holiday season, I’m giving myself permission to rest. To dream. To reconnect with the person I’m becoming.

During the holiday season, I’ll be slowing down—cozy in my pajamas, sipping spiced bourbon apple cider, and quietly mapping out the life I want to create for the coming year. No sprints, no rush. Just steady steps forward. Because my success...It’s MINE to define. It’s not about keeping up with others’ timelines or expectations. It’s about authenticity, intention, and joy.

A Festive Twist on Seating Assignments!...

This year let's add a sprinkle of magic to our holiday gatherings! Instead of the usual place cards on the table, why not display them on the Christmas tree?

We recently tried this at our corporate holiday party for our clients, and it was a hit! Imagine the excitement as guests arrive and head to the tree to find their name among the twinkling lights and ornaments. It's a fun and interactive way to kick off the festivities and get everyone mingling right from the start.

Not only does this create a beautiful and unique centerpiece, but it also encourages guests to explore the tree, admire the decorations, and strike up conversations with others as they search for their spot. It's a delightful icebreaker that adds a touch of whimsy and wonder to your celebration.

So, let's make this holiday season unforgettable with a tree full of cheer and a room full of laughter!

Corporate holiday parties are a fantastic way to celebrate the year's achievements, boost team morale, and create lasting memories. When organizing these events, always pay attention to the details that engage the senses. This creates a memorable and immersive experience for your guests.

My final event for 2025 was last weekend and now I am in full gear preparing for an exciting lineup of corporate events for 2025! As I am planning for my client’s events, I am keeping in mind something that I have practiced for years and was just reiterated through another voice. I recently attended a conference that highlighted the importance of details, “sensory details”, in event planning. Here's how we incorporate these elements:

SIGHT, TOUCH, AND SMELL:
At a recent holiday party we planned, we embraced the theme "Holidays around the World" by focusing on sensory details for our table designs:
1. Sight: As guests entered the room, they were greeted with visually stunning elements that immediately captured their attention and sparked excitement.
2. Touch: The linens were playful and tactile, designed to mimic the textures of the earth, inviting guests to interact with the fabric.
3. Smell: The floral centerpieces featured the refreshing scent of pine, enhanced with scented pinecones and sprigs, creating a festive and aromatic atmosphere.

Each element in the floral design also offered a variety of textures, adding to the sensory experience.

Our clients have a refined taste, and we strive to meet their high standards with every event we plan.

Day 3 of Gratitude...

Being a small business owner is a journey—one that is as rewarding as it is challenging. When you first start out, you’re taking risks every day. You make mistakes, learn from them, and try to navigate the complexities of running a business, all while not knowing what tomorrow might bring. Balancing the demands of work, family, life—everything feels like a delicate dance. There were times when the uncertainty was overwhelming, and I wondered if I could make it through.

But I’ve learned that gratitude turns the struggles into lessons. And for that, I’m deeply thankful. I’m especially grateful for the handful of amazing people who stepped in to support me when I needed it most—those who believed in me and helped me find my way.

As I grew in my journey and found my footing, I knew that I wanted to pay it forward. Over the past 10 years, with 40 incredible mentees, I created a mentorship program that would give aspiring event planners not just the tools to succeed, but a trusted guide to walk them through the ups and downs. Watching these bright individuals blossom into successful professionals has been one of the most fulfilling parts of my career.

Mentorship is a two-way street. It strengthens both the mentee and the mentor. As I guide others, I also grow, learning new perspectives and finding inspiration in the fresh eyes of those I mentor. They remind me of why I started this journey and open my eyes to things I may never have seen on my own.
