Wow! This post is best shared in pictures. We have come so far in the loving restoration of this historic building. It's such a warm, inviting space now. But, MAN, what a journey it has been. We are forever grateful for all of the blood, sweat, and yes, tears, that have been invested! We hope you have enjoyed this series on the history and progression of our spaces.
Since its original construction in 1855, The Brewery (along with the Busch Mansion currently housing the VFW Post 2661) has undergone upgrades and additions and witnessed over 160 years of Washington's history.
Shown here are images of the building and grounds as early as an 1893 map. The photographs span 1899 through 1970, and current day.
We are proud to be the current conservators of this beautiful, historic building. Stay tuned for our next post in this series, where we will show the condition of the space when we took over, and how the restoration has taken place.
This Thursday will be extra special for Line Dancing at The Brewery! We will have special guests Jamie and Barney Marshall, a Pot Luck (just bring your favorite dish 😍), and we'll be gathering after dancing at Skeeter's to keep the party going!
Doors open at 5:30, warmups at 5:45, followed by lessons and open dancing until 9:00. $5 cover fee, 18+ only. We can't wait to share this special night with you!
What a pleasure it was to celebrate at this gorgeous wedding over the weekend. Thanks for choosing us to be part of such a special day! We can help make sure your day is perfect too! Reach out now at www.washmobrewery.com!
As you make your plans for Independence Day, keep in mind that Line Dancing at The Brewery will take that Thursday (7/4) off to enjoy all that Washington has to offer. There will NOT be Line Dancing that week! We hope you dance at your celebration!
Did you know that The Brewery is reported to have a number of special guests? You might not invite them to your event, but they love to party and may invite themselves!
Of course, with a history as long as ours, there have been multiple happenings that might result in spirits hanging about. Around 1912, a homeless man named Fritz visited the brewery. He was seeking work, and while there were no positions to be had, he was allowed to stay in an area with a sink and cot. In exchange, he did groundswork around the building. After about a month's stay, Fritz suddenly died, right at the sink. He is said to be felt throughout our building. Additionally, psychis have sensed civil war sodiers and children in our lower levels. Some even say a little girl can be heard calling for her mother.
According to Karen Cernich, Feature Editor of the Missourian, in an article from October 2011, Tales of a True Ghost Hunter, Dan "Spookstalker" Terry, had some interesting experiences while ghost hunting. “In my experience,” Terry writes, “the Washington Brewery is the happiest haunted place along the Missouri River.” "The ghosts there have made their presence known in more ways than one — setting off the KII electromagnetic field detector, crossing a pair of dowsing rods in response to yes and no questions, “speaking” through an ovilus device . . . But the most convincing for Terry was when he felt a spirit touch his wrist. “Suddenly, I felt my hand being grabbed, with an invisible thumb on top and the fingers under the hand. It was not the cold touch of death, nor the warm feeling of a human hand — only pressure from someone grabbing my right hand,” he writes in the chapter on the Missouri River in Washington. All of Terry’s encounters with the spirits at the Brewery have been benign. Nothing has ever been scary or dangerous. “The ghosts at the brewery have so much fun,” he remarked. “They like to play with us.” In the book, Terry notes that once during an investigation at the brewery, the spirit of Fred Gersie said he was “waiting for the fun to begin.”
While we have never been approached by any spirits, if you are open to such a thing, perhaps you will have an extra guest or two at your event! According to , our spirits attended a recent event they photographed and had a ball!
These links provide "proof" of the spirits. Visit if you dare! 👻

Ever heard of BUSCHO? 🧐 It was a drink produced right here in Washington by the John B. Busch Brewing Company. Of course, it was brewed and bottled in the facility now known as The Historic John B. Busch Brewery Event Center. Described as a non-intoxicating beverage of a malt nature having an alcohol content of 12/100 of one percent by weight, or a cereal beverage; it was advertised as both a draught and bottled refreshment.
Production of the beverage began in 1917 and Buscho was marketed as a soda alternative to beer, which would soon be made illegal by the 18th amendment. In an effort to continue operations during prohibition, the brewery also began producing ice, soda water, and believe it or not, potato chips! When prohibition was repealed, The Washington Brewery was utilized for bottling beer, but never went back to producing its own brews.
The Brewery has such a great story to tell, and we are excited to share the changes it has seen over its 170-year history. Make sure to follow us for future posts in this series. 🧐 www.washmobrewery.com
