Hey everyone,

We're reaching out about a scoring issue that came to light after the recent Practical Rifle match. There needed to be a better understanding of Stage 3 for Squad 4, and the initial scores posted on Practiscore did not reflect everyone's performance accurately.

Here's what happened:

After looking into the situation we have determined that Squad 4 ran Stage 3 incorrectly (not returning the kettlebell to its starting point).

Additionally, the scores for Squad 4 were switched between Stages 2 & 3 and have since been corrected.

Addressing the Issue:

We take fairness and accuracy seriously. After careful consideration, we've decided to add a 30-second penalty to all of Squad 4's Stage 3 scores. This penalty reflects the potential time advantage gained by skipping a step. The updated scores are now reflected on Practiscore.

Transparency and Learning:

It's important to be transparent. Our Match Director, Kurt, actually ran Stage 3 incorrectly himself and gave himself a 30-second penalty before we knew of this issue. This highlights the importance of clear communication and following the course layout precisely.

Addressing Distractions in RO Walkthroughs:

In the past, we've allowed shooters to tag along during RO walkthroughs. While we appreciate the interest, it can sometimes lead to distractions and misunderstandings about the stage layout.

Moving Forward:

To prevent similar situations and ensure clear communication, we'll be strictly enforcing the rule of ROs only during walkthroughs. This will allow for a focused explanation of the stage layout and procedures before the event.

We’re not trying to overblow the issue but we are serious about transparency and fairness. We appreciate your understanding and continued participation in Practical Rifle. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out!

Registration for the July 6, 2024 TASC DMR class is now open.
When you register, please email [email protected] whether you will be in the beginner or intermediate track. To participate in the intermediate track you must have the DMR patch or instructor approval.

Here are the stages for Practical Rifle for this coming Saturday June 15th. Please be aware that we will be using the East side 200yd range this month. There will be shots at 100yds, 150yds, 180yds, and 200yds. Please make sure you bring equipment that is up to the task and that it is sighted in. Please message me if you have any questions.

We have been testing ideas, taking feedback, and making small tweaks every month. Last month some par times were more harsh on many shooters than we intended. 2Gun will remain a competitive event, but we don’t want it to be defeating for those still making their way up the ranks.

Practical Rifle is coming up Saturday, April 20th. This is just a heads up that there will be 2 stages that will require use of a shotgun. For those that have them, please bring them along with 10 rounds of #7, 7 1/2, or 8 shot for clay targets. If you do not have a shotgun, an RO will have one available for you to use. ATTENTION 2-GUNNERS - tomorrow is our inaugural event!

For those registered: Make sure to check the forecast and prepare accordingly. We expect rain and wind which won't stop the match. If you can show up early and help set up the event, that would be appreciated. RO's show up as early as 7am. Mandatory safety meeting at 8:45.

The event is sold out and we also have a full RO staff. The last I checked there were 12 people on the waiting list. If there are any slots open after roll call, those on the waiting list who are present will get the first opportunity to sign up.

Because it is a new event that is sold out with bad weather, we will not be able to be as flexible in letting extra shooters into the match who show up the day of the event simply because we do not know exactly how long the match will take.

The shooting season is getting started, and we have a packed season.

ASC is home to all of the Action Shooting Sports. Cowboy Action, Practical Rifle, 2 Gun, 3 Gun, Centerfire and Rimfire PRS matches, NRL22, IDPA, USPSA, and Outlaw Steel Challenge.

We even have a defensive training discipline for members called TASC (Train ASC), a monthly IDPA skills drills day, ASC Member Night Shoots, and our large Zombie Shoot each year.

I am going to try something by posting the stages ahead of time this month. I hope this will keep people from spending time walking the stages while the RO's are trying to run the stage. We appreciate it if everyone thats not shooting would stay off the stage while RO's are getting ready with the new shooter. We will see how this goes.

Practical Rifle is this Saturday the 16th. Couple of notes. Make sure youre willing to get muddy. Second, practice your weak hand grip and view through your optic. Third, make sure you can load a rifle magazine quickly! Cant wait to see everyone Saturday!

Weather is looking good for this Saturdays PPR Train up.

Set up will begin at 6am. If you can help out it would greatly appreciated.

Registration will start at 8am. Start shooting around 9am after the mandatory safety brief.

Expect a similar format to previous years. There will be a zero board available. Confirmation targets, and PRS style barricades available to shoot from. Casual shooting atmosphere. Shoot what you like as often as you want.

I will be available to answer questions and help out new shooters.

Practical Rifle will once again start at 11am this Saturday the 17th. Setup is at 9am for those who can come out to help. Safety brief and check in will be at 10:45. You must be present for the safety brief to participate. Remember to dress for the weather. As of now it looks to be a chilly but sunny forecast. Looking forward to seeing everyone there.

Fellow Action Shooters. We mourn one of our own this month.

Our ASC member, Greg Mondek, passed away on January 2, 2024. His wife, Barbara, passed away just 13 days later.

While Greg may have been slow at the age of 80 due to breathing, diabetes and walking difficulties, he was accurate in his pistol shooting matches, and never missed a match. He enjoyed shooting both IDPA and USPSA, and will be mourned by many.

Please say a prayer for our good friend Greg, his wife Barbara, and his family.
