Tuesday. Two days away from the launch of Don't Let Me Keep You.
So where did this book come from? Like all of the others, it just came out of the ether. I started thinking about parenting - I've been a parent for over 40 years now. And I really think the most difficult phase of parenting is whatever phase you're in - even now, as the parent of adults, I would say this is my hardest time. I thought about writing about that - being the mom of grown-ups, and then I thought, Why would you want to write about just motherhood?
My character answered for me. From the book:
"Hildy still remembered her mother saying to her, when she arrived home from her elopement to Hank, and when she informed her parents of her very first pregnancy, “You only want to be a mother? Just a mother?”
There was no just in being a mother, there was no only. Hildy remembered looking at her mother then and realizing that just and only explained so much about Hildy’s own upbringing."
Being a mom was, and still is, my biggest role in my life. There is no "just" in being a mother, not even now, when my kids are 40, 38, 37, and about to turn 24.
And so...Don't Let Me Keep You.
Hope you come to the launch.
