What inspired my immense love for mini neighs, mini hooves, mini hugs, and mini poos? Always being captivated by the neighs of horses and the sweet smell of the barn, I fondly remember being blessed with my first pony as a young child. My parents rescued this feisty appy pony from the Humane Society. Along with his spitfire nature, he came with worms, lice, reared and climbed fences, bucked me off at every opportunity, the whole nine yards. I remember, vividly, being dumped in the sand ring at our house during a riding lesson. I went in to clean up and my mom told me I could quit if I wanted too. My horse trainer at the time said, “If you do not get back on right now, you will never ride again”. That pony taught me a valuable lesson in what the word, “persevere” meant. In the beginning, I was bucked off many times and found myself walking home, where I would join back up with my pony. With all those trials, grew a passion, love, and trust that was undeniable. We were a team! Eventually, I graduated to a horse and that pony went on to win many shows for a little girl, but his lessons remained with me. With the new horse, Molly, I joined Pony Club and worked for a horse trainer, where I learned many valuable skills and continued my passion. I even delivered Molly’s foal! At that time I also competed in Eventing through the Preliminary level. After graduating and jumping into my teaching profession, I made the extremely difficult decision to sell Molly and her foal “Iron WIll”. On a new teacher’s budget, I could not afford a car payment, apartment rent, and the keep of two horses, nor did I have the time they deserved. As years went on, and Facebook grew in popularity, I joined the craze. I began following some of my old horse friends who found a career in horses. The passion was still in me, and I found myself stalking their photos and stories of their horse adventures. I could still smell it! One day, a friend posted some AMAZING photos of some miniature horses visiting nursing home, Veterans, sick children, Hospice, etc. Having experience as a special education teacher for almost 20 years, and having a strong desire to help people, combined with my love for the equine world, I set my heart on joining my two passions together. Being a person who never just jumps into a swimming pool, but rather, tests with her big toe, then slides in her legs, and so on before being fully submerged, I knew I had to do some research before fully “jumping” into my mini pool. I looked at many pictures, and spent countless hours researching miniature horses, pet therapy, and, of course, costumes! At the start of the 2018-2019 school year, a parent came for Back to School Night. She sat down at my table with her husband and asked if I would like to know about their son. As we were deep in conversation about their son, they mentioned their two miniature horses...it was a sign! With her nudge, I found myself halfway in the pool! She helped me in my search for my first mini friend, and before long, I was in Bowler, WI, picking up my first miniature horse. Corky and Mini Inspirations was born! I fell in love, and the following week, Sugar Bear joined our family. In a short time, they have made a mark on our hearts. We enjoy nightly walks, popping mini fences and long grooming sessions.
