Did You Know?

Did you know that the oldest koi fish ever named Hanako was born in 1751 and didn't die until 1977? That means she lived to be 186! Most koi live to be around 50-70 years old, but can occasionally reach high ages. Additionally, Koi are surprisingly very intelligent fish. This allows koi owners to train their koi fish to do things like eat from their hand or ring bells or swim through hoops for treats. Koi are also able to recognize the faces they interact with frequently and definitely have their own personalities and temperaments; if you have the ability to spend some time watching the Chandor koi group, you’ll see the personalities of ours shining through. The solid gold one is pretty direct, and as the largest of the koi, tends to rule the roost. The butterfly koi swims in graceful arcs when the others may take more direct routs. The one with the red spot on his head seen in this picture fancies himself a salmon and will frequently jump up the small falls that breaks the canal up into sections for some solitude. Come visit our fishy friends soon and they will happily entertain you!

While hailing from England and incorporating the traditional techniques of English gardening methods, one of Douglas Chandor’s biggest influences in the Garden was Chinese gardening traditions and aesthetics, and touches of this are evident all throughout. The eastern and southern portions of the Garden are overtly Asian in influence, yet there are gentle touches of that Chinese influence throughout even the English portions, from demure statues and lanterns, to even the subtle choice in a prostrate Juniper cascading down the rock that forms the border between the walkway and the flowerbed that runs along the length of the pond. It’s not the devil in the details at Chandor Gardens, it’s the beauty.

Part of the beauty of a garden is in seeing the meticulous landscapes come together to form individual sections, or “garden rooms”, but one of the most beautiful parts of having a garden is taking a moment to appreciate the beauty on a smaller scale. It’s in noticing the small details, the intricacy in the design on both a macro and micro scale. Join us on this adventure as we explore the garden and feature special parts each week, from the large installations that come together or the stately trees that shade the grounds, to the tiniest butterfly alighting on an unfurling bud, or a baby koi investigating the rushes that grow in the canal edges.

The garden is waiting to be discovered; let’s discover it together.

After yesterday evening's storm, you may start seeing lots of roofing companies in neighborhoods and we want to prevent anyone from becoming a victim of fraud. Make sure you get estimates in writing, get more than one bid and don't pay in full up front. According to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), after natural disasters and severe weather scammers may try to impersonate government disaster assistance agencies, insurance companies, representatives of charities or even contractors. We are continuing to assess damage to the community from yesterday’s weather. At this time, we have set up a temporary brush drop-off area for Weatherford residents. For the free temporary brush drop-off locations, residents may take ONLY clean brush waste (NO lumber, bagged materials, metal, trash, etc.). Locations include:

City of Weatherford Temporary Brush Drop-Off
2990 White Settlement Rd.
Weatherford, TX 76087
Dates and Hours of operation will be Saturday (March 4), Sunday (March 5), Saturday (March 10) and Sunday (March 11) from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Parker County Convenience Center
2833 Tin Top Rd.
Weatherford, TX 76087.
Hours of the Parker County Convenience Center are Monday - Friday from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Trash, brush, and bulk waste will also be collected curbside per the normal collection schedule. Check your schedules here for bulk and brush: https://weatherfordtx.gov/1038/brush-bulk-garbage-collection.
For any residents needing assistance with brush removal/cleanup, please call our partner Love Weatherford at 605-906-4322 or contact them at their Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/groups/2577898312353285.

Additionally:
• The Department of Development and Neighborhood Services will be waiving all permit fees related to the storm damage that occurred on March 2. They can be contacted at 817-598-4284 EXT 2.
• To report debris in roadways of any kind, please utilize the MyWeatherford app or call Public Works at 817-598-4000.
• To report lost pets due to the storm, please contact the Weatherford Parker County Animal Shelter at 817-598-4111 or via email at [email protected].
• All City of Weatherford offices are operating normal business hours.

Lastly, we have 60 electric customers currently without power, and we are continuing to work around the clock to restore power. We understand this can be frustrating for customers still without power and we are working as quickly as possible. The City of Weatherford Electric is responsible for power to the meter box only. If you are still without power after electric crews have restored power to the meter box, you will need to contact an electrician as the problem is within your residence or place of business. We ask that anyone who comes across a down power line, report it immediately and stay away from the area. If you have been displaced from your home and need assistance, please contact the American Red Cross at 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767).

Thank you, Weatherford for your patience. During times like this, we come together and show why we are a strong community. For additional information, please visit: https://weatherfordtx.gov/1666/Emergency-Management

Approximately 10,000 households and businesses are without power. This is over half of our electric customers. Due to the extent of the damage our main priority is getting power back to critical care units, such as nursing homes and medical facilities. We will continue to provide updates as quickly as possible, but we do not have an estimation on when power will be restored to residents and businesses without power. We understand the frustrations of being without power and we are working as quickly as possible.

This tool is designed to deploy early in a disaster impact area to gather Rapid Damage Assessment information revealing the scope and size of an event for public safety personnel.

𝐕𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐖𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐝!🌳

The Chandor Gardens Nature Trail is ready for its first official "Spruce Up" day on January 29th from 2:00-4:00pm.

The Native Plant Society of Texas, Cross Timbers Chapter, has taken on the stewardship of the trail in agreement with the City of Weatherford, who owns and runs Chandor Gardens, and with the citizen input of the Chandor Gardens Foundation, Inc.
Because this trail is new, there is quite a bit of cut brush that needs to be removed. Regular monthly volunteer "Spruce Up" days will be on the last Sunday of each month from 2:00-4:00 PM.
Channel your "inner farmer", wear gloves, boots, and bring your go-to brush removal tools to clean a section of the trail from its entrance to the first bridge (trail is 6/10 mile). The City will provide a truck to haul loads to the garden's back lot where the pile will eventually be chipped and hauled away.

January promises no bugs or extreme heat, so please contact Christie Tull at 817.307.9307 or email her at [email protected] to be added to the volunteer list or to ask for more information.

This opportunity provides an easy way to give back to your community while enjoying all the beauty nature provides!

Thank you Weatherford Chamber of Commerce for the shout-out!

Thank you Weatherford Chamber of Commerce for the shout-out!

The Travel Lens recently wrote this about Chandor Gardens.

"A combination of Chinese and English architecture (three-and-a-half acres in area) surrounds you when you enter the exotic Chandor Gardens. The gardens are alive with sound and movement: the rushing of water, the chirping of birds, and the gentle sway of nature. You get to explore the expansive network of winding paths encompassing a variety of features, including various pleasant ponds, running streams, rock formations, and other forms of scenery. You will also see a large fountain that is one of the largest wall fountains in existence today."

Never been? Make an effort to get out into the community. See the sights, taste the food, and don't forget to support local businesses!
