RIP JACK RUSSELL (GREAT WHITE) Jack was the driving force behind my career in the music industry and a founding member of the rock band Great White. Jack was known for his amazing vocals, energetic stage performances, and hit songs such as Once Bitten, Mista Bone, Rock Me, and Angel Song just to name a few.
In April of 1989 I was surprised with tickets to see RATT, Great White, and Kix in Terre Haute Indiana at the Hullman Center. I was excited to see RATT which was my favorite band at the time, and with it being my first arena show.... I didn't know what to expect.
I walked through the doors just in time to catch the last song from Kix as the stage went dark...
When the lights kicked back on there was Great White... I wasn't very familiar with them at the time but Jack's vocals and stage presence along with Mark Kendall's guitar skills blew me away! Once their set was over the crowd let out the loudest cheer I had ever heard. I was starstruck...
RATT hit the stage and Stephen Pearcy and the band put on a hell of a show as expected.., but, after we left... I couldn't stop thinking about Great White's performance and how cool it would be to meet Jack and Mark.
It was one of the most memorable nights of my life and changed my path forever. My dream and goal at that time was to work with the Secret Service...(So happy I didn’t go that route...lol) But right then and there, all that changed! I wanted to work in the world of Rock N Roll and I wanted to work with Great White... Sounds dumb right?, how 90 minutes of glam/hair metal can change years of dreams, dedication, and hard work.
The next day I was driving through Bloomington Indiana with my best friend and Once Bitten Twice Shy came on the radio, funny thing is I was on my way to buy the CD at the mall.
I looked over at my buddy, turned down the radio and said... I'm gonna pay their paychecks one day! and turned the radio back up as he laughed his ass off... I was serious! But hearing it come out of my m
