A program of the International Institute of Wisconsin, Holiday Folk Fair International is held annually in November, celebrating the heritage of the people living in southeastern Wisconsin with cultural music, food, dance, arts, and crafts. The three-day event features the All Nations Theater with traditional music and dance; the World Café offering traditional dishes; the International Stage wher

e young people perform their ethnic dances; the Tanzhauz where attendees dance and sing along with a variety of musical stylings; the Coffee House where patrons enjoy a beverage and baked goods while listening to talented musicians; Heritage Lane with unique traditions and customs through interactive exhibits; the International Bazaar, where cultural artifacts create a unique shopping experience; and the Chef’s Stage featuring local chefs preparing traditional cuisine. on Fri., Nov. 18; 10 a.m. – 9 p.m. on Sat., Nov. 19; and 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Advance tickets are $12 each, with family four-packs for $44. Admission at the gate will be $16 for adults; $8 for children ages 6 to 12; with children five and under tadmitted at no charge. December 5 is Discovery Day in Haiti, marking the anniversary of the location of the island by Christopher Columbus in 1492. While this day is a significant part of the country’s history, it, more importantly, commemorates the millions of indigenous peoples who started a revolution and fought against French colonization, achieving freedom in 1803. The day is celebrated throughout the country with food, performances, and festivals.

Holiday Folk Fair International 2024 was a success, and we’re still thinking about what a wonderful weekend we had November 22 – 24! We want to give a big thank you to the cultural groups that shared their traditional art, food, performances, and dress with us, and for all those who came out to celebrate the cultural heritage of those living in southeastern Wisconsin. We can’t wait to see you next year!

In this time of giving thanks, we want to extend our appreciation to all who participated in the 2024 Holiday Folk Fair International, as well as to all who attended the event this past weekend. It was a wonderful experience to share traditions and cultures. We look forward to seeing everyone gather for the 2025 event, Friday, November 21 - Sunday, November 23.

The displays of several exhibitors were honored with Cultural Exhibit Awards in conjunction with the 81st annual Holiday Folk Fair International, America’s premiere multi-cultural festival, held Fri., Nov. 22 – Sun., Nov. 24, 2024, at the Exposition Center at Wisconsin State Fair Park in West Allis, Wis.

Awards were presented in the following categories:
• Best Interaction with the Public: Wisconsin Hispanic Scholarship Foundation, Inc./Mexican Fiesta
• Best Educational Presentation: Milwaukee Chinese Community Center
• Best Artistic Presentation: Italian Community Center of Milwaukee
• Best Use of Theme: LAC Inc. Waukegan Lake County, IL Chapter (Lithuanian)
• Best Depiction of Ethnic Culture: Wisconsin Latvian Culture Foundation

Congratulations to these groups and thank you to all the groups that produced wonderful cultural displays that were enjoyed by event attendees.
