Hey, local bands! πŸ‘‹ Let's talk about something tough but important: rejection.

We know how much work goes into your music and how much you want to share it. Sometimes, despite your incredible talent, a venue might not be the right fit. It's never easy to hear "no," but how do you navigate those moments without taking it personally?

For venues, making booking decisions is often about finding the perfect puzzle piece for their specific vibe, audience, and schedule. It's not a reflection of your band's worth, but rather them making the best decision for their business.

So, we want to hear from you! How do you handle it when a venue isn't the right fit? How can venues communicate to your band in a manner that is understandable? What strategies do you use to stay positive, learn from the experience, and keep moving forward? Share your insights in the comments! Let's build a supportive community around these shared experiences.

Pro Tip for Musicians! 🎢

Hey fellow musicians, quick friendly tip for setting up on stage: please be mindful of any sponsor banners! These banners are crucial for event sponsors, and covering them diminishes their visibility. Let's show respect to venues and organizers by keeping those banners clear. Thanks for helping us all keep the music playing!

We just wanted to give a huge shout-out to all the bands and musicians who chimed in on our post yesterday about band breaks! We're genuinely blown away by the thoughtful and insightful responses you all provided.

It was incredible to see so many of you openly sharing your perspectives and the reasoning behind your approach to show flow. This kind of open dialogue is exactly what we hoped to instigate, helping all of us in the live music community think deeper about the audience experience and what makes a great show for you and the venues.

There's no right or wrong answer when it comes to breaks, and your contributions truly highlighted that. Thank you for taking the time to share your insights and for helping to foster a space where we can all learn and grow together.

We're already thinking about the next topic for discussion!

Hey Bands! Let's Talk Breaks
(or Lack Thereof!) 🎸

We've all been there – you're crushing it on stage, the crowd is hyped, and then... it's break time. But what if we challenged that tradition?

We want to open up a discussion about the benefits of playing your entire set without a break.

Think about it:
* People staying longer: Keeping the energy high means keeping the audience engaged from start to finish.
* More money spent: A continuous flow of music often translates to more time at the bar and potentially more money in your pockets.
* Preventing the exodus: How many times have you seen a significant portion of the crowd thin out during a band's break? Avoiding breaks can keep those folks right where they are – enjoying your music!

What are your thoughts on this? Have you tried playing a no-break set? What were your experiences, positive or negative? Let's hear your insights and start a good conversation in the comments!

"Sound active" mode is not a light show for live bands.

It's a light show for karaoke DJ's.

It is 2025 and local live music has enough obstacles to deal with as it is, which means....

PROMOTE YOUR SHOWS!!!!!
It's so very simple and expected.

Venues, don't expect people to show up if you don't promote.
Bands, don't expect to be asked back if you can't promote.

Why do we STILL need to have this conversation?

Industry roles are useful to understanding how to achieve success. A great example is understanding the difference between a "buyer" and an "agent".

Agents represent the bands. They advocate for the performers, work with the buyers to cultivate exciting events, and handle logistical details on behalf of the bands. They are typically paid as a percentage of the overall deal.

Buyers represent the venues, or anyone deciding to hire live entertainment. Buyers know their clients needs, their budgets, and hopefully all elements surrounding the events. They can work with agents to find the right entertainment for their clients needs. Sometimes they are the managers, owners, committees, or, like us, someone that knows the industry and is hired to represent them.

It is important to understand this difference when it comes to your expectations.

We, SCE, primarily work as a buyer or entertainment coordinators for our venues. We don't represent bands, we represent our venues. Understanding that can help the bands and buyers meet to create events that reward everyone involved. We want the musician community to clearly know who we are so that we can be transparent with each other to find successes.
