How has it been a year? Happy (almost) first anniversary to my favorite couple who contracted to produce a classically beautiful wedding at the in Philadelphia. We specifically booked in November based on a long shot consideration that the Mets would actually go to the World Series... our groom is still waiting for that to happen (as a Yankees fan writes this post).

It’s pretty amazing when the set piece designed for the 2015 Visitsouthafrica.africa Ubuntu Awards ends up in the South African Consulate-General’s office in NYC and is still used for photographs today (check out the last photo) 🇿🇦

Some years are more difficult than others and this year in particular has a heavier weight of sadness without an explanation to why. Time does not always heal all wounds.

Regardless of the day or year, those that were lost on that fated Tuesday in 2001, have since died from 9/11 related illnesses and the survivors and families that continue to struggle with the impact of this life altering day, hold a permanent place in my heart and will never be forgotten.

Planning the media release for the channel’s 9/11 documentary “102 Minutes That Changed America” in 2011 was both mentally and emotionally challenging having to revisit Ground Zero on the 10th Anniversary of 9/11. The event was filled with heavy sadness as the documentary’s detailed account of September 11, 2001 was supported by unreleased footage and presented in 7 World Trade overlooking Ground Zero.

Following the documentary, the team spearheading the design of the Freedom Tower and surrounding WTC landmarks presented to convey understanding and support for the rebuild of NYC’s skyline. Despite an emphasis on change, the design and overall development focus remained on honoring those that perished, so they would never be forgotten.

The second week of September remains challenging as the Anniversary of 9/11 tends to stir up raw emotion despite each year that passes. In honor of those that perished on that fateful Tuesday, the others that have since passed in the last 23 years from 9/11 related illnesses and the survivors like myself who live with the weighted guilt and trauma of this experience, I wanted to look back at the 10th Anniversary Memorial held in 2011 at the partially rebuilt 7 WTC.

ABM Industries had lost a number of their employees on 9/11 as they selflessly assisted with the panic stricken evacuations in Tower 1 and 2. Years later their CEO Henrik Slipsager participated in the show vowing to Maria, one of his 2001 employees who also lost her nephew in the attack, he would bring the company together to honor those that perished. Keeping his promise, that bittersweet moment of sorrow, remembrance, closure and hope were captured in these photos, as time seems to stand still.

As we remember 9/11 each year, the stories of the unsung heros that gave their lives to protect others in time of need are what should never be forgotten. 🇺🇸🗽🏙️

When asked which event is one of our most memorable, the media launch of “America The Story of Us” documentary immediately comes to mind. Held at Ellis Island, guests were welcomed via boat to an outdoor cocktail reception with breathtaking views of the and lower Manhattan skyline. Guests were then welcomed to sit for dinner in the Registry Room, the very same location most of their ancestors (including my own) with hopes and dreams of immigrating to America patiently waited for their citizenship. Hearing the guest’s breath literally gasp from the magnamic impact of this truly special and historic moment is why we do what we do. 🇺🇸🗽🏙️
