The Manor combines distinctive gourmet cuisine, superior service and a truly grand environment for weddings and all of life's most important events.
Since 1956, The Manor (www.themanorrestaurant.com) has hosted decades of weddings and has been the event destination for generations of customers in celebration of life’s most special occasions. Our experience and commitment to perfection is unparalleled in regard to both weddings and corporate events. Now in its sixth generation of owners, the Knowles family continues the tradition of providing g
racious service and hospitality while keeping up with the changing needs of our clientele. When Harry Knowles opened his three-room restaurant in the hills of West Orange on New Year's Eve in 1956, he could not have known then that his dream would culminate in an establishment of which The New York Times said, "It is as close as one can get to perfection." It has been a long and rewarding labor of love for the Knowles family. They have taken those original three rooms and created a New Jersey landmark for celebrations that captures the timeless essence of elegance and splendor.

For us, a more beautiful sight than flowers...as we're once again in the midst of our annual tradition of the planting of the tulip bulbs. Each year our grounds crew individually digs many thousands of holes throughout our gardens and grounds to plant, one-by-one, imported Dutch bulbs to fill our estate with lively row upon row of cheerful color come springtime.

It was a pleasure hosting the talented professionals from the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism for an inviting and entertaining trade show, panel discussion, and dinner. Its was an honor to welcome the Deputy Prime Minister, Consul General, and other executive team members to The Manor. The event made for a wonderful combination of the aesthetic and atmosphere of The Manor and its lush greenery with all that's enticing about the Bahamas. Between the lively entertainment, excellent ambiance, and their genuinely warm-hearted personalities, they truly did contribute to furthering their mission of "Bringing the Bahamas to You".

A scale and scope unique in our area that offers the grandeur of our expansive mansion and all the surrounding grounds to elevate your event, making for an impressive experience for even the largest groups of guests. (Video courtesy of Gary Flom Photography.)
Views of our newly-renovated Virginian Ballroom in the west wing of The Manor, with light and airy neutral tones and warm, inviting accents, including gold filament-embellished mirrored panels, ornate decorative appliqués, and intricate moldings. Adding to the luxe look is a newly-installed marble dance floor, shimmering crystal chandeliers, color-customizable cove lighting, wall panels of fine fabric, and many other equisite adornments. With a charming series of antique leaded glass French doors that diffuse the sunlight from our adjoing Greenery and gardens into a soft glow, the feeling of romance and elegance is all-the-more enhanced. A huge 'Thank You' to our grounds keepers who have been working non-stop throughout this swealtering summer season to ensure for our guests that our gardens and grounds are maintained in pristine condition...without ever wishing for a single drop of rain!
Our carefully-tended gardens yield more than an abundance of beautiful flowers. With The Manor's herb garden and greenhouse, along with our farm in West Orange, we continue our decades-long tradition of supplementing our produce with items that we've grown with our own hands as a simple reminder to continually think fresh, natural, and local.
Another month, another film production at The Manor. The same reason that many of our clients and guests choose us is why we're frequently sought out for on-location filming by major productions -- between the scale of our property, the distinctive, luxurious and refined decor, as well as the varied and unique aesthetic of our indoor spaces, filmmakers get to enjoy an abundance of elegant options for making the magic happen.
Connecting the beauty of the outdoors and our grand fountain courtyard with our Imperial Ballroom is our Starlight Gardens. With its floor-to-ceiling windows spanning the full south-eastern exposure, segmented by a soaring barrel-vaulted glass-paned central atrium, this impressive space makes for a wonderfully sun-lit reception by day, and an awe-inspiring soirée under the stars by night.
Another look inside our Versailles Bridal Suites, with their newly installed marble floors, adding even more luxe to the look, providing our brides with a perfect place to be pampered, surrounded in ornate, romantic elegance as they prepare for their special day.
A look back at this year's Taste of Essex, the signature event of North Essex Chamber of Commerce. It was a pleasure to open our doors as a gathering place for the community as they celebrated the 20th anniversary of this superb celebration, welcoming friends, industry colleagues, and fellow foodies--all for a great cause. Thank you to the wonderful organizers for choosing us once again as the venue host for this excellent event! Video by Peter Morris Films.
The progress never stops as our grounds crew adds more new purple-leaf ornamental plum trees to line our gently sloping entranceway. Beautiful year-round, they are particularly impressive when flowering in the spring. (Video courtesy of Keri Knowles who arranged for this enhancement.)
The "TASTE OF ESSEX" is back! And they've once again chosen The Manor as their venue host. Come indulge in a superb sampling of some of the best bites from across Essex County as we celebrate this annual event's 20th Anniversary. On Monday, April 25th this wonderful culinary gathering will showcase dozens of great restaurants and food purveyors, not to mention serving up some special spirits and beverages. Eat well while doing good, as proceeds from this event go to the North Essex Chamber Foundation, which supports civic, cultural, and economic advancement of the region through business grants, scholarships, and donations to non-profits. We'll be offering up a tasting or two ourselves as well, and it will be a great opportunity to see for yourself some of the recent updates that we've made to The Manor while you're here! For tickets and additional details, visit https://business.northessexchamber.com/events/details/necc-2022-taste-of-essex-4197. We hope to see you there!
While new upgrades are being added, we nonetheless continue our dedication to our history, merging them with the quality and character of the elements that make our manor house unique. Investing in our past as well as our future, we're meticulously restoring and polishing more of our antique chandeliers, crystal-by-crystal, to make our special spaces shine brighter than ever.
Stay tuned! -- We've got a lot more updates, upgrades, refreshes, and revamps on the way in multiple spaces spinning round the clock to add some fresh and bright new features for you before we jump back into a busy schedule of upcoming events!
Dedication, experience, and craftsmanship -- Our values empitomized in the hands of our in-house upholsterer and man of many roles, Patricio Guzman. In keeping with our ethic of investing in authenticity -- both in people and in product, we lovingly maintain, and make anew, the things of quality that stand the test of time. It may cost a little more to do it right, to do it real, but putting a bit of ourselves in everything that we do always seems to prove worthwhile--and be more meaningful--in the end.
