We take a break in August, which means this is the LAST SHOW of our 2023/2024 season! Don't miss your chance on the open mic stage, and our phenomenal featured poet!

Doors open, sign-up sheet posted at 7pm.
Admission is $5 donation or pay what you can. No one is turned away for lack of funds.

The open mic is open to artists of all genres, and all ages. Bring your stories, poems, prose, music, songs: let's hear it! You'll have 4-5 minutes on stage. Please be considerate with your time.

JR Mahung (She/They) is a Garifuna poet from the South Side of Chicago. She now lives in Boston, MA with her cat, Frank Ocean. JR’s chapbook “Since When He Have Wings” is available through Pizza Pi Press.

This Sunday July 14, our team will head up to Lizard Lounge in Cambridge for a NorthBeast Regional Slam! Come out and support our team, and local poetry and spoken word!

AS220 is closed tomorrow for the holiday so no provslam show this Thursday. HOWEVER! Tonight the provslam team ships out to Lowell for a Battle Royale Slam with local teams. Come out and support! Mark your calendars for our next open mic featuring JR Mahung on Thursday July 18!

Oops! Our team will be competing in Lowell, MA on Wednesday July 3, but NOT at Lowell Poetry's usual haunt of Coffee & Cotton Cafe.

The BATTLE ROYALE SLAM will be held at The Teaching Space at 122 Western Ave, Lowell, MA 01851 aka Western Ave Studios. There will be an open mic portion too!

Doors Open + sign-ups at 6pm. FREE ADMISSION.

What an eventful Thursday night! Full room for our wonderful features, noam keim and Nandi Comer, who each read from their beautiful books. As we moved into the open mic, we realized there was smoke and an acrid smell in the room, so the fire dept came by to make sure everything was OK. We moved the show outside and finished the open mic with a dramatic backdrop of lights! Thank you for supporting art and spoken word and sticking with us!

Ace is a finalist poet in ProvSlams Grand Slam Finals on Thursday May 16.

Ace is a 21 year old multifaceted artist majoring in liberal arts theater at umass Amherst. He was the youth poet laureate of Worcester Massachusetts and received the key to the city for his work and dedication. You can follow him on Instagram

Aidan is a finalist poet in ProvSlams Grand Slam Finals on Thursday May 16.

Aidan Choi (he/him) is a creative storyteller, currently studying ethnic studies and urban studies at Brown University. Since coming over from the Bay Area, CA, He has fallen in love with spoken word, writing and performing as part of Brown/RISD’s spoken poetry group () as well as participating in AS220’s open mics. Aidan is interested in using spoken word to explore questions of transnational identity, erased histories, and disparate ancestries.

Vincent is a finalist poet in ProvSlams Grand Slam Finals on Thursday May 16.

Vincent Ama is a Puerto Rican born Poet, Musician, and Artist from Brockton Massachusetts. He has recorded a number of albums and performed at countless events. He got his start writing poetry through writing songs. His favorite poem is Canto General.

GRAND SLAM FINALIST
Sandy is a finalist poet in ProvSlams Grand Slam Finals on Thursday May 16.

Sandra Levy (Sandy) is a poet, photographer, and psychologist born and raised in New York City as the grandchild of Polish and Russian Jewish immigrants. A resident of Rhode Island since 1992, Sandy has made her name as a beloved storyteller in the local reading scene, sharing works around her Jewish identity, feminist values, and the complexity of love. As a practicing psychotherapist for forty years, Sandy is deeply rooted in relationships, the impact of intergenerational trauma, and the unfolding landscapes of our inner lives. The Detroit Jews for Justice newsletter published her poem “Migration” in November 2017, and she won the Providence Poetry People’s Choice Slam in 2023. She is herself the proud mother of two poets. Sandy resides in the Edgewood neighborhood of Cranston, where she raised her children, and lives with her husband of 38 years, Bob Samuels.

Penny is a finalist poet in ProvSlams Grand Slam Finals on Thursday May 16.

As a high schooler from Barrington, Penny participates in debate team and theater. In her free time she enjoys creating art, reading fantasy books and writing poetry. As a newcomer to the slam poetry scene she is excited for the opportunity to present her poems to such an amazing community!
