One of the memories of Saturday night greeting children: the boy,6, who told us what he wanted for Christmas in a quiet, heavily accented voice: “Peace in Ukraine.” When he turned for a photo, with head bowed, and made a peace sign, it silenced us.

Quite a day! Three hour mini session with kids and families at Waterlemon in downtown La Grange. Then, a petrified Santa (moi) played a few bars of Tchaikowsky’s Waltz of the Flowers on his harmonica after
the West Suburban Symphony Orchestra just finished playing it to a full house. We love having some ‘shtick’ with the good-natured Maestro (we keep him guessing at times and he gives it right back!) He handled it all with aplomb when Mrs Claus presented him with one of our bracelets from the Kindness Tour 2024 (our theme for the season).

We search out kindness! Found it at a huge Birthday Party for a 1 year old, whose family had rented out an entire Elmhurst restaurant. Found it yesterday at a Shell station (best Deli sandwiches in Hinsdale, IL!) where a checker quickly inserted his credit card in front of mine paying with a “Merry Christmas,Santa!” as I ran in between gigs to get coffee creamer and a turkey sandwich! And 2 different Fire Departments (LaGrange and Riverside) helped us gingerly on and off Fire Engines! Kindness abounds, when you look for it, find it, and share it!

She was in her late 20’s, maybe early 30’s and she was a person with…well, let’s just say “disabilities.” She hung around Mrs. Claus and I forever. Then she gave me her list…Only it wasn’t HER list. She had written this list for her brother. She never wrote a list for herself, but she was adamant that Santa get her brother’s list.

Don’t tell me Santas don’t occasionally meet God’s special angels. Because I met her.
