This morning I had the pleasure of hosting our team of volunteer Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep photographers to welcome our two newest photogs, Jen of Studio 2N - Portrait Photography and Jamie of Letter10 Creative and talk about how we approach sessions and how we can best serve the families we work with.

What is NILMDTS? It is an international organization that offers free professional portraits to families with babies who will not be going home from the hospital. We work with grieving families in the hardest moments and I could not be prouder of this compassionate team I work with! Amanda Harris Herzberger is a longtime volunteer that started in CT and joined the team when she moved to Vermont many years ago! The only smile missing today was volunteer Lisa Manchester - nilmdts, who is a volunteer photographer, volunteer retouch artist and retouch trainer for NILMDTS. All amazing people!

If you feel the call to do this type of work, please reach out to me! I would be happy to answer any questions you have about what we do. Professional photographers or hobbyists are welcome! So long as you can take a good photo.

You will receive the needed training. Yes, it is hard. Yes, it is sad. But the joy and comfort our images bring outweighs it all and we are happy we can do this work.

While I'd love to say this was my idea, it was actually the turkeys idea as they came right over to join their owners in the portrait. 😍 This portrait is front and center in their album!

Which pet would you want in your wedding photo? For our Christmas card last year we made sure everyone, including the chickens, were represented in our photo!

Under the guise of having me model for a inspired photoshoot in order to sneakily get me to studio unawares, I was surprised with the honor of receiving the Professional Photographers of America National Award. It was such a wonderful surprise! This award would normally have been given at our annual convention banquet but since that cannot happen in person still, they set up this delightful surprise! Well played my friends.

How's everyone doing?

In Vermont Spring is SO CLOSE, but for the past few days it's been cold and we've had snow showers. It's pretty typical for a Vermont Spring, but right now I think we all just want warmer days! Warmer days would make "staying home" more bearable I think.

Isolation really is a funny thing... Something some of us desire and thrive from and something some of us wither under. I am very lucky that this time is spent with my little family, but I'm keeping in mind all those who are indeed alone right now and missing the people they love. The desire to just BE with someone is pretty strong right now I'm sure. Hang in there! One day this will be a part of history. We will move beyond this.

Many clients and friends have asked if I will be offering the ever popular Front Porch Sessions that have taken off during this time of social distancing. While I think it's a sweet idea, I will not be offering sessions like this at this time for many reasons. Rather than re-invent the wheel, I am sharing a post another photographer wrote. I agree with most of the points made.

If you would like a portrait of your family, let's chat and plan to do so once Stay Home orders are no longer in place! Currently photographers are not considered essential workers and that is ok with me. I will do what I can to help slow and stop this pandemic!

I completely forgot today was St. Patrick's Day! I blame . 🤯 But as I was gathering some images together for a client this afternoon I came across our images from in 2013. ☘️ What an amazing trip that was! My parents were supposed to go to Ireland in a few weeks but it's been postponed for the time being. So since none of us are going anywhere, enjoy a little view of Ireland! Sláinte! ❤️☘️

Remember head bumping selfies? Before we were told to keep a meter from our friends and neighbors? This gem of a human right here is one of my favorites! A fellow photographer, mother and Lutheran. 💕 I love our coffee dates where we get to discuss a bit of business, a dash of kid stuff and enjoy a whole lot of laughter!

Last night at the banquet I was awarded a service medal for my years of volunteer work with the Vermont Professional Photographers. 🥰 I was one of a handful that received the recognition last night and just am so tickled to be a part of such a wonderful local group that values it's members. 💕 And to be a part of such a FUN group of people and photographers! Today's our last day of classes and I have a lot on my mind... ⚙️ Wheels are spinning!

Pretty much every couple that contacts me is worried about not looking natural in their wedding photos or feeling like they're being posed and stiff. They were attracted to my work because my images show my clients looking casual and relaxed! I then explain that I utilize what I call "gentle posing" techniques where I'm bringing my couples into comfortable, natural, real life poses with a little flare that look EXTRA AMAZING in photos. They don't feel like they're being posed and they definitely don't look stiff. And now you know ALL my secrets! 😁😂👌

I'm not interested in rushing Winter, but I was just booking a trip and noticed that the first day of Spring is less than a month away!! And that means flowers, gardening, color and going outside without layers and mittens!! 💕 And today that sounds SO tempting! Beautiful blossoms and ring set at last June.

Years ago when I started doing on location studio setups, my friend Kelly from told me to get a hockey bag to make things easier. Years later and she's still right! So much 💥stuff💥 packs right down into something manageable! 😁👊
