For venues and homes in Southern California, there is no little to no lighting once the sun sets. Photographers are forced to:
• drag their shutters, introducing motion blur
• anticipate, setup and pop OCF
• go onboard flash and black out their backgrounds
• shoot tight and forget their backgrounds

Who cares? Bride’s dad had an awesome speech. Leave that earlier question to your professional photographers so you can enjoy your event while we make you look good!

To indulge my craving for film, I was lucky enough to find a clean, CLA’d and resealed Nikon FM from

I’ve been wanting a fully mechanical body for a hot minute and the Leica M6 is just going to have to wait. 😆

From the listing, everything looked fantastic and when I opened the box, everything was super clean, including the lens. The FM focusing screen is notoriously difficult to clean, so I wasn’t too worried about it.

I brought the FM to my friends over at and was able to make a few adjustments to really make this classic shine.

Tony added a soft release, was able to adjust the new seals to better access the shutter counter and added silver oxide batteries for the light meter.

Can’t wait to shoot some black and white film and maybe get some Ektar and Portra in the mix!

Four straight shoot days and putting the Leica SL2S through its professional paces with a Sigma 105 Art.

This engagement shoot was at sunset (could you tell?) in Malibu. I never mind when I get some assistance from the wind. Congrats to Ryan & Keegan!

Golden hour with a few tweaks.

I always have mixed feelings when shooting at El Matador because of logistical challenges that are out of our control. It’s always exciting bringing clients here. This was one of the rare times where we had a great tide, easy winds and breathing room between the army of photographers. Parking always sucks.

This was a shot we caught on the way out. So many people were freaking out about where she was on the ledge, but was a trooper.
