Took full advantage of the beautiful weather today & worked on tucking some more of the flower beds in for their winter slumber.
This process is a non-chemical way to help manage w**d growth while simultaneously building up & infusing the the existing soil with added nutrients by the time spring arrives. “Beauty in the breakdown” as they say.💕🌻
Working hard on prepping the beds for spring while these fall days are still sunny & gorgeous! Since we are working towards being a no-till operation & trying to utilizing as few chemical interventions as possible, a lot of my efforts these first few years will be focused on cultivating & building up nutrient-rich soil.
Recycling old newspaper & gathering cardboard from local businesses is helping me achieving a richer soil here on the farm. The materials will decompose over winter & provide nice beds for seeds and seedlings in the spring.
Interestingly enough, I noticed that this particular section of newspaper highlighted my neighbor’s front page debut when he was elected County Circuit judge earlier this year. Just a small town full circle right there 😂
Fall clean up day around the farm! Prepping for next spring takes a lot of planning but it will definitely pay off when all the gorgeous blooms start coming in💕❤️
One thing I didn’t anticipate when I started Story & Bloom was how exciting it would be to see the look of surprise & joy on people’s faces when they get an unexpected flower delivery 💕 It has to be one of the purest expressions of happiness to witness & I love it!

As we head into August I can feel a shift starting to settle in around the farm 💕 My focus & planning is becoming more consumed with prepping fall beds, starting seeds, fall wedding work & getting things in order for an even better, bigger year in 2022!

Find people who are passionate about their craft. My hairstylist hadn’t seen me or touched my hair in two months, yet seconds into my appointment today she said “your hair is thinner” & proceeded to listen & ask questions during our time together that lead us to the answer right before I left. She wasn’t there to get me in & out of the chair, she was all in, committed to the client in front of her 110% & it pays off.
She knows her stuff & it shows in her work. She is constantly striving to learn more & grow her business in ways our small town would’ve never dreamed of. All that to say, passion & knowledge shine when you love what you do. 💕
(Spoiler alert: don’t use a round brush hair dryer for the entire blow dry process, I was pulling all my blonde out🙈)
Y’all being outside everyday, working the land & growing beautiful things fills my cup up SO much. Even amongst the challenges, the struggles, the failures & pesky bug bites, my heart is so happy out here in the field.

Feeling so loved today after my first Farmer’s Market experience! So many of my amazing friends stopped by throughout the day to cheer me on & I couldn’t be more thankful for their support! 💕 I was able to share our vision with tons of people who seemed genuinely excited about our U-Pick events and all the goodness Story & Bloom has in store for our area. Plus, we sent countless folks home with free sunflower plants to grow & enjoy. Overall, it’s been a good day in the flower world. 🌻

Last weekend was very busy around the farm as you can see in this before and after photo! Several days of w**ding were in order after life had kept me busy & away from all the farm work the week prior. However, there was honestly something peaceful & cathartic in cleaning up this space.
Sometimes we just have to slow down, do the hard work of tackling whatever mess we’ve got going on in our lives & then soak up the success that comes when the job is finished! 👍🏻 Celebrate your wins & know that you can do hard things!

I grew these petunias from seeds over the winter & they are perfect for the heat wave that just arrived today!
When I’m not moonlighting as a flower farmer, you can find me at my 9-5 grind as a senior office admin for a local financial advisor. I’ve been very lucky over the past 7 years to work alongside a team driven, successful women who are not only knocking it out of the park professionally, but also juggle active family lives, community involvement & creative hobbies without missing a beat.

A few blooms are starting to pop up in the field! Still *far* from where I’d like to be, but things are definitely chugging along.💕
One thing that I honestly wasn’t quite prepared for when I started Story & Bloom is the loneliness that can creep in alongside entrepreneurship. A new business can be all consuming. It needs the majority of your free time. You find yourself invested 100% in the constant planning, doing & dreaming of your vision. Here in the beginning stages especially, it can sometimes be difficult to fully express the goals that I have for Story and Bloom, because though they are fully sketched out in my brain, they are still such a work in progress in the visible world. Will it be worth it? Will people see the value & find excitement in our farm/products like I do?
That is why I am SO thankful and appreciative of the love & encouragement you guys continue to offer me during this stage of our journey! I had high hopes of having the farm open & ready for visitors by now, but alas here we are in early June waiting for things to really take off & fill out a little more. All good things take time right!? ☺️
All that said, I absolutely cannot wait to see everyone when we finally do get to open the farm this summer & enjoy the work that this exciting (yet slightly terrifying adventure) has in store for all of us! Keep hanging with us because beautiful things are heading your way soon!
If you know me, you know I have an obsession with tiny, miniatures of things & these little violas make me smile every time I look at them! They won’t last much longer in the upcoming KY summer heat, but I will enjoy every second of it while they grace us with their adorable presence.
And since we are getting to know each other better on this gorgeous Sunday morning, I will admit that it has been quite some time since I walked through the double doors of a church, though there is one available to me on almost every street corner in our small town..But seeing God’s creativity at work in these small flowers & the brushstrokes of blended color on every petal can sometimes inspire more reverence and quiet appreciation of His love than sitting through a one hour fire & brim stone sermon from a bellowing Southern Baptist preacher. God surrounds us everyday if we look for Him, His availability isn’t limited to Sundays from 10am-12pm. 🤷🏻♀️❤️
Worked my tail off this week & loved every second of it! It’s amazing how much you can accomplish when work & your passions intertwine. 💕
I cannot wait to walk these paths with y’all & watch you find joy in these blooms! It’s the simple things in life that can truly ground us when we need it most.
