On this date, January 3, 1987, Aretha Franklin, an American singer, songwriter and pianist, became the first female artist to be inducted into Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame.

Universally regarded as the "Queen of Soul", she was twice named by Rolling Stone magazine as the greatest singer of all time.

Aretha Franklin is one of the best-selling musical artists, with more than 75 million records sold worldwide. She charted 112 singles on the US Billboard charts, including 73 Hot 100 entries, 17 top-ten pop singles, 96 R&B entries, and 20 number-one R&B singles.

Aside from music, she appeared in the 1980 film The Blues Brothers.

Aretha Franklin received numerous honors throughout her career. She won 18 Grammy Awards (44 nominations) including the first eight awards given for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance (1968–1975), as well as a Grammy Living Legend Award and Lifetime Achievement Award. She was also awarded the National Medal of Arts and the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Saturday night I had the honor to dj one of my best and oldest friend's surprise 70th birthday party.

There were many compliments on the tunes I played. I did have help however due to the extensive list of music provided by Rick's husband Keith. A nice variety of music, an extra dose of Disco, and songs from Moulin Rouge and were pleasing to all.

During cocktail hour, the string quartet provided a nice alternative to dj music.

All-in-all, it was a great event.

Had a terrific night providing DJ service for my Randolph Elks Lodge 2130. It was the annual fundraising event called "BOLA" attended by 250+ people. There were 379 gifts donated by the members and sponsors that were raffled off. I received many compliments on the tunes I played and also handed out few business cards. A great night, as usual. for my lodge.

Had some good fun Saturday night playing a wide variety of tunes in members lounge at the Moose Lodge, Plymouth. Even though the lounge had no dance floor, some did a bit of fancy "steppin". Biggest hit was an Irish medley. This older lady came in the door and boogied for 6 min +.

Still some good energy at 11pm.

Part II - the "change of pace/mode from mitzvah to a multicltural wedding Sunday @ Waterworks Museum, Chestnut Hill Boston....one of those "eclectic" venues for a wedding ceremony & reception. A bit chilly for the 6pm Jewish ceremony outside on the front steps of the museum across from Chestnut Hill Reservoir. The ceremony goes ok except the Huppah wouldn't cooperate in the breeze. Next :Approx. 6:30 Inside for cocktail hour, etc. Cocktail hour takes 90 minutes due to tremendous interest and participation with the photographer and the photo booth upstairs (quite a bit removed from the party room / dining area). I was asked several times to promote the photo booth. What ? Influence the guests to leave the main area to go have fun at the photo booth ? Well, ok. Looks like I did a good job of that since the photo booth got mobs of people and plenty of attention as families, groups, and miscellaneous other guests partook of the opportunity. Introductions (16 people) were scheduled for 7:30 and buffet meal was set to start at 8pm, . That timeline got blown away since many people were still upsatirs having a great time with family photos and the photo booth. I cautioned the bride and groom about running too long with cocktail hour/photo booth, etc. I went upstairs a few times to see how it was going (or how much longer - lol) They thanked me and appreciated my input, but we were outnumbered by the amount of people having a blast. Why spoil the fun ? Bride says, "Just wing it". I suggest to bride and groom (that since it's now 8:15 and the caterer has gone ahead and started the buffet without them) that we'd do introductions, toasts, and other formal stuff after dinner. Great idea they said. Finally, everybody comes back from upstairs to chow down and I'm playing some upbeat stuff.....not the garden-variety-typical dinner music while tossing in some Latin flavor too. (high number of Latin family/guests). People are bouncing in their chairs while eating, and boogying in the
