Had a fun afternoon on Sunday "lunching" with some of my entertainment industry colleagues.

Left-to-right : DJ Brian McAuley, photographer Dave Sproul, Dj Nick Lamberti and myself, (DJ Alex Belmonte) enjoyed some laughs exchanging various stories about the many gigs we've shared together over the years.

Brian, Dave, and Nick, it was great to see you guys again yesterday.

Looking forward to a repeat session later in 2024.

St. Patrick’s Day eve at my Randolph Elks lodge Saturday providing DJ service. I played a good balance of Irish and other genres. Smallish crowd (40) but I got "great job" compliments on the tunes from almost everybody.

Had a terrific night providing DJ service for my Randolph Elks Lodge 2130.

It was the annual fundraising event called "BOLA" attended by 250+ people. There were 379 gifts donated by the members and sponsors that were raffled off. I received many compliments on the tunes I played and also handed out few business cards.

A great night, as usual. for my lodge.

A true "OLDIE"

On Dec 4, 2023, recording artist Brenda Lee made history when her classic holiday song, "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree," topped the Billboard Hot 100 for the first time - 65 years after the song's release.

Brenda Lee recorded the tune 'when she was just 13, earning her the name "Little Miss Dynamite". Now, at age 78, "Rockin' Around the Christmas tree has reached the pinnacle of Billboard's all-genre chart. In the process, her song has become only the third holiday song to reach No. 1 ever on the Hot 100.

I enjoyed providing DJ services for a 50th Wedding Anniversary on Saturday. The honorees had a terrific time as did their guests. I received lots of compliments and a very generous gratuity too.

The only minuses were the load in/out (stairs, no elevator) and I
had to wait 45 min for a torrential rain storm to ease up before I could load in.

On Monday afternoon, I had a terrific time providing DJ service for a fundraiser at the Randolph Elks #2130. The amazing Kerri Anne Berry of Grille 1048 in Randolph and her fellow organizers engineered a terrific day including a golf tournament and a huge party afterwards at our Elks lodge. It was outstanding to see so many caring and generous people attending to raise money for a friend diagnosed with cancer.

There was a huge crowd and tons and tons of food and raffle prizes donated by many in support of a great cause.

There will be another similar event (same time, same, place) on Sept. 18.

I'm very much looking forward to doing it all over again.

After a long layoff this year for medical reasons, yesterday I was able to resume dj activities. Monday's event was a charity fundraiser for Officer Michael Beal, a 35 year veteran of the Randolph Police Dept.

Officer Beal was killed in a traffic accident earlier this year and leaves behind his wife and 8 children.

Officer Beal was an avid golfer, so there was a memorial golf tournament earlier in the day followed by the fundraiser party at the Randolph Elks Lodge #2130. Nearly 300 people came, including many past and present members of the Randolph Police Department. There were tons of raffle tickets sold for silent auction, a good deal of $ raised, and all had a great time honoring Officer Beal's memory.

Special thanks goes out to Kerri Berry of the 1048 Bar & Grill in Randolph. Kerri and her team of volunteers pulled off a terrific event, secured many donations from local vendors, and raised some serious $ for the Michael Beal Scholarship Fund. I'm glad I was able to help out.

September 1982 - "The Downtown Sound Disc Jockey Service" was established - 40 years in business. (I actually started to dj events in 1980, but operated it more as a hobby for fun and a few extra bucks.)

After a break from the action for medical reasons during the first part 0f 2022, I'm getting ready to "play" again. Time to entertain with great tunes and fill some dance floors.

One of the responses to yesterday's National DJ Day post was from a talented photographer, Dave Sproul. I've worked many weddings alongside Dave of Catch the Light Photography.

Dave Sproul :
Happy DJ Day Alex ....... you read a crowd better than any other DJ I've ever worked with .....👌

Thanks, Dave. I appreciate it.

Oct 1 was my birthday. And my birthday fun was providing dj services for a fundraiser in support of Sunny Paws Dog Rescue.

Almost 200 people attended the party at the Randolph Elks Lodge.

Included in the night's entertainment were 3 comedians, headlined by local favorite and star comic Christine Hurley.

A silent auction and 50/50 raffle combined with ticket sales helped to collect a significant amount towards the dog rescue program.

Great job organizing the whole event by Toni Lynn Eaton.

🎵"Do You Remember the 21st Night of September?" 🎵

"September" - Earth, Wind, & Fire - 1978

A great song back in the 70s and still a popular dancing tune these days at many parties.

On Saturday, I was honored to provide dj services at a wedding for a repeat client. The last wedding I did was Nov. 2019 since Covid squashed many other opportunities (and caused a few refunds too). Michele, the Bride, had hired me for a 60th birthday in 2015 and a Christening in 2018, so she knew my work. Her original wedding date in 2020 got postponed due to the pandemic until Aug. 2021.

Happily, we got it done Saturday. I was a bit anxious since the entire event (ceremony and reception) was outdoors with a forecast for high 80s and potential thunderstorms. A pop up tent set up for me would offer some protection unless a wind-swept thunderstorm happens. Nicely, the rain held off (my prayers worked) except for a quick shower at 2pm (ceremony started at 5pm - I set up at 3pm. )

About 100 attended and dress mode was casual per B&G so that helped immensely. Bug spray was a popular item since the area is known for mosquitoes and ticks. Despite the heat and humidity, the crowd was responsive and made my job easy.

Mike, the officiant, a family friend performed a smooth ceremony. Nadia, the wedding coordinator, was a great help in organizing the day, and I found it easy to work with her. I had previously worked with the videographer (Tim) 10+ times over the years, so that was a nice match up for me. The photographer was quite busy so I didn't interact with her much, but kept I her abreast of any time line variances, etc.

All-in-all, it turned out well. The guests offered me many compliments, and I received a generous tip from the Bride who said, "You were great, as usual."

When it was over, I was sweaty and had some odor from bug repellent, and shower when I got home before bedtime fixed that.

I'm ready for my next one in a week.

LET'S GO!!!

This one popped in my memories file today. I'm less active in djing these days (38 years of events and a pandemic slowed me down) but I am still doing it because I love to entertain.

I remember this wedding well. I was quite a bit more anxious than usual since it was the first time I used a portable generator due to no electric power outside, which I knew going into it. I was referred to the bride by a fellow dj (Ken Drew who retired last year I think - thanks again Ken). The bride and I exchanged several conversations and emails before she accepted my $ offer for dj services. The residence where the wedding occured was 2+ hours away so a site visit (I do site reviews 95% of the time to be fully prepared) wasn't in the cards this time. Photos of the property which the bride provided showed me most of what I needed to know. OK, let's get it going we all agreed. And it turned out well.
Some of the memoires that pop up in FB are throwaways and not worth revisting. This one is a keeper.

On their 1 month anniversary I usually send the Bride & Groom a "thank you" for hiring me. I received a nice compliment in return :
Hi Alex,
I can't believe it's already been a month! I think you are the only one of us who noticed the date. Lol. Things are busy, but good in the Granger household!
I think everyone had a good time too. You did a great job! You were so helpful with working out the details with me and you really paid attention to what we wanted. You were able to adapt, if something didn't go quite as planned. People were getting out on the dance floor so much more than at my brother's wedding and you were a big part of that!
Scott says you did a really good job any time I bring up ANYTHING about the wedding. I could be talking about how the cake was really good or how I'm so glad that so and so came and Scott's response is pretty much always- the dj did a really good job. 🙂 Scott has a really hard time with weddings and actually broke out in stress hives the day before, so it especially means a lot to me that you were a bright spot in the day for him.
We'd be happy to refer you in the future!
Gillian
So after all these years, this is one of the reasons I'm still rockin' in the DJ biz.
