Hello Wichita,
As we enter the two largest shopping months, I want to empower you as a consumer and encourage you to make conscious decisions when spending your money. For small businesses, these next months determine if they stay afloat, if they can continue stocking shelves, provide local experiences, continue to provide employment & keep their businesses open.
I’m a consumer. I understand the weight it holds in these unprecedented times because I feel it too: the desire to keep my dollars in the Wichita community fighting the convenience of shopping Amazon.
It’s our individual responsibility to be deliberate with how we spend our money. Most of us want to inject our dollars back into our local economy.
Our local businesses are asking the community to not let time get the best of us this year, to map out our shopping before hand with local businesses rather than spending last minute on big corporations.
We don’t hate large corporations; we need them! However, they have all the advantages to help them after a poor quarter. In a time where we seem to have little control over our economy, we can still ensure our money stays in Wichita so it can continue to grow how our community wants it to grow. Buying from small, local places is an investment in our city. Thriving establishments only encourage investors to pay attention to Wichita, and we want to continue being innovative and inspiring. If small businesses can’t stay open in Wichita, new ones won’t come.
So, let us help you shop for the perfect gift this year! Map your Christmas list with places around town. Make the effort to check out somewhere new, to buy your loved ones a thoughtful gift or even an experience!
We want to provide you with resources for this, so we’re sharing a form we hope all local businesses will fill out. The goal is to create a comprehensive list of businesses for the community so each individual can make their own choices on how to use their purchasing power. We have the power to create a Thriving entrepreneurial city where innovation, creativity & dreams are born and cultivated here. We have the power to ensure Wichita is a place you can work, live, play & make your visions a reality.
