Fountain Park is a 144 acre forest preserve on Tinkham Road in Wilbraham, formally the Massachusetts State Game Farm from 1913 to 1984. Following the closing of Pheasant Farm, the buildings and grounds fell into disrepair. A group of local citizens worked for ten years to acquire the property for an ‘in town’ park. Thanks to a donation from Carol A. Fountain, this huge resource area was purchased
from the State for public education, recreation and enjoyment. In September 1992 plans to rename the property Fountain Park were approved and since then it has been managed by the Wilbraham Nature and Cultural Center, Inc. As stated in the Center’s Articles of Incorporation, its overall purpose was “to develop, improve and expand agricultural, nature preservation and recreational opportunities and Town programs for the residents of the Town of Wilbraham.”

It was the Trailer Trash concert that saw over 1,000 people in attendance.

UMass is currently working on a migratory bird study in several Wilbraham open space areas including Fountain Park. This is taking place during this years migration - right now and this fall and will continue into the spring and fall of 2022. This is exactly what they are studying - the impact of light from cities and neighboring towns on the migration. If you see these young scientists out in our areas they are more than happy to answer questions. We are super excited that they chose Wilbraham to be one of their study locations. If you read the final Wilbraham Open Space and Recreation Plan we were able to get a mention of this study in the plan as the final edits were being worked on.
