What makes us special? Our great staff! I will be highlighting a different staff member each month, because let's face it, I couldn't do this alone----and I wouldn't want to! The first person I would like to write about is Rafael Ayala. He has been with us for a little over a year, and he has not only become quite a barista, but he also has become so very valuable in so many ways. He is a regular opener at the cafe, has updated and helped redecorate the space, fixed machines, trained new baristas, regularly manages inventory, and makes supply runs. He is an all around good guy. Clients love his personality, and so do his coworkers.

In addition to these responsibilities, he also has a successful dog training company, Good Shepherd Training. He and his girlfriend, Rebecca, also recently bought a house. They also have the most adorable French Bulldog puppies ready for their forever homes.

I, like many small business owners, have a love/hate relationship with December. It is great to see people we haven't seen since last year, the events are over the top beautiful and festive, we have a chance to give a little back to our community with charity events, and the increased revenue is great. But, the exhaustion is real. Many of us have trouble fitting in personal celebrations. We see the stress behind the events with our clients and coworkers. The season is hectic.

This year, we have had equipment break, been shorthanded due to illness, and have lost a significant amount of equipment in a vehicle accident. Lucky for us, the people were ok.

We also take on some out of town jobs, at this time of year, which makes for late nights and early mornings. This year, it caught up with me. I feel the lack of sleep way more than when I was in my twenties. For instance, I arrived at an early job in Cincinnati, and found a restroom before unloading. I am so glad I did, because I had put my pants on backward....But, love what we do, and we do what we do with love, and so pants on backward or not, the job happens.
