A gorgeous and dynamic late spring day @bellefiorewineryweddings yesterday celebrating Anne-Marie & Raymond led to the creation of this arch design. I love how the manzanita base and the California bay laurel foliage grounded this arch amidst the native plants and landscape of our bioregion. I try, in all of my design work, to use some native plants amongst the farm grown because those natives anchor us all in the beauty of this place and make my creations uniquely southern Oregon in flavor. Sure, weddings anywhere in the US might use peonies and roses this time of year, and they’re amazing, but how many are going to have bay laurel foraged in this bioregion for this particular celebration?!
***ORDER YOUR VALENTINE’S DAY BOUQUETS NOW***. I’ve got mixed bouquets of fresh tulips available for pick up at the farm on Sunday or Monday or visit @ashlandfoodcoop where I’ll be making a fresh delivery tomorrow (Friday). To order tulips, visit the link in my profile.
***Next month I’ll begin PRE-ORDERS FOR DAHLIA TUBERS my website.*** Tubers will ship next Spring with the option of going to warmer climates in March, cooler climates in April. You’ll be able to self select when you’d like to receive them but tubers departing earlier will require a little extra handling charge for additional insulation in the shipping box to protect from frost in transit.
The price of dahlia tubers always seemed high to me as a customer, but as a grower I end up touching your tuber 9 times before it goes to you: digging, washing, dividing, inventory, packing into storage for overwintering, checking for mold in winter, removing from the storage medium, recounting, and finally packing for shipping with a little prayer for safe travels and well-being in their new home. I think that it’s worth outlining this high-touch process so there is transparency for customers outlining what it takes to bring dahlia tubers to your door with love and attention. ❤️
Dahlia bar today in the new farm stand in Williams. 1340 Kincaid Rd. Drive up the dirt drive and follow the fence line to our little stand with the “Flora” sign attached. It’s self-serve and you’ll need correct change, so bring your 1s and 5s. $2, $3, and $4 stems plus $20 mixed dahlia bouquets. Today only until 6pm. Great for date night, a special gift or just to give yourself a treat. We have $2 jars with water or bring your own. Today’s the first day for drop-ins at the new stand so I’m super excited to be opening it up the community. Nice shelving, herbal products, ceramics, and ice cream in future weeks as the rest of the farm crew brings out their artisan products!
Another moment of creative inspiration for my birthday party a couple of weeks ago. I put together this crown of succulents, lichens and scabiosa buds for myself and felt like a QUEEN 👑. It stayed on well despite dancing hard, the succulents and lichen are still alive two weeks later, and I plan to plant/disperse the contents to the Farm and woodlot. Who knows, maybe I’ll be able to make a future crown years from now with most of the same materials. Regenerative floristry?
Flowers are amazing in the way they help us hallow moments, to make them sacred. There’s something in the way looking at them is a deeply sensual experience, capturing the eye, inviting touch, alluring us to engage through aroma…In awakening the senses, I suspect they call us into this present moment like few other things can do.
Yesterday my girl crossed an important threshold of childhood. After 8 years in her Waldorf Public Charter School with the same teacher, 1st-8th grades, she graduated. She did so with 13 other children that have been together since 1st grade. That class has been an inspiration and a rock for our school- family, community, friends- we’ve become them all together raising up these beautiful young men and women. Here’s a little glimpse of the flowers for their ceremony yesterday…
Peony tour. Wouldn’t you love to be a honey 🐝 collecting sweet, sticky juice from peony buds?
So rewarding to gather the beauty of farm and forest and get to share it with 800 people! The National Biodynamic Farming Conference is underway in Portland and I got to drive a truck full of fresh goodies plus abundant dried flowers to decorate the main stage. So inspired to be amongst such thoughtful and heartfelt conversations about the future of agriculture! #bdconference18 #farmerflorist #organicflowers #farmtotable #seedtotable #flowerseed #seedtovase #weddings #southernoregonwedding #beauty #biodynamic #knowyourfarmer #southernoregonflowerfarmers
