The founding members of CTC began doing theater together as students of Naomi Marrow and Backstage Productions, a staple of Williamsburg theater and arts education since 1999.

Naomi believed that local theater was a necessity, not a luxury. By making all performances free of charge, anyone could see theater, no matter their background. Since its beginnings, Backstage has made over 150 production

s free of charge to tens of thousands of audience members.

By breaking down all economic barriers to access, community theater can truly be a shared experience by everyone who comes through the door. Clear Theater Collective is proud to continue the tradition that Backstage Productions started. Clear Theater Collective was founded in 2016 by a group of friends who wanted to produce bold and innovative theater for Williamsburg-area audiences, with all performances free of charge.
