Fall colors are here 🌿 Continuing the monthly flower crowns for Isabel.

Flower design includes needing a good understanding of how to utilize color. I love using analogous colors (colors that live beside each other on the color wheel).

I started with yellow, then followed along with orange and red. I added greenery to add texture and interest. The light green greenery and the white flowers help to lighten up the design. They also help to ensure the analogous colors don't get lost and brings in color harmony.

Designing flowers has always felt like an extension of art. Painting, using colors and creating something mindfully. Designing art with flowers is even better.

This topical headpiece was so much fun to design and I had the best model (If you find a friend like mine, consider yourself lucky!)

What a great event!! Shop local 🌿

Join the 2024 Cape Fear Native Plant Festival – Reimagined! for a native plant shopping day on Saturday, September 21! Many area vendors are participating, with some locations even hosting multiple vendors for the festival (indicated by an asterisk*):

Pender Pines Garden Center – 20949 Hwy 17, Hampstead, 28443
Blooms & Branches Garden Center – 5523 Oleander Dr, Wilmington, 28403
The Garden Shop on Moss – 1942 Moss St, Wilmington, 28403
Wild Bird and Garden* – 3501 Oleander Dr, Wilmington, 28403
Shelton Herb Farm* – 340 Goodman Rd NE, Leland, 28451

Extension Master Gardener volunteers will also be at Pender Pines, Blooms and Branches, and Shelton Herb Farm to answer questions about native plants. There will also be 4-H children’s activities at Blooms and Branches. Find all the details at go.ncsu.edu/nativeplantfestival.

Please note that there will be no physical festival at the Arboretum on September 21.

When inspiration strikes you have to create!

I love reading books and it's always fun when a character loves flowers too. I love when you can relate to a character 💐

Colleen Hoover's "It Ends With Us" is a book I loved and recommended to friends. So in honor of the book becoming a movie I wanted to recreate the book cover with flowers.

About the flowers:

-Orchids of course were a part of this design, since it's the flower on the book cover.

-Lilies, because the main character's name is Lily.

-Zinnias from my garden to give the design a personal touch.

-Purple and Pink Roses to pull in the colors of the cover.

I had a fun time thinking and designing this one. Maybe I should do more book covers? 🤔

I'm excited to watch the movie!!
