Last week we hosted an Urban Land Institute (ULI) event highlighting brownfields development in downtown Wilmington. Kaitlyn Rhonehouse with Geosyntec Consultants presented on the redevelopment of the northern riverfront area that has resulted in our marina and restaurants, as well as multi-family apartment buildings, retail space, and the new Live Oak Nation amphitheater and park. The panel included a property owner, developer, general contractor, and environmental consultant who discussed their experience developing contaminated properties under the North Carolina Brownfields Program to facilitate the safe reuse of these formerly blighted properties.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped us to have a successful evening! It was a beautiful day spent learning about the growth of our city!

Tropical Storm Ophelia sort of popped up out of nowhere and made her presence very much known. We made it through the night with wonderful guests on board that were up for the adventure. Big thanks to the Port City Marina team for helping us keep our dock lines secured and everyone safe! 💪🌀
