Joshua Conyers, well known to area audiences for his riveting appearance as Scarpia in Opera Wilmington's production of Tosca last summer, will present A MIRACLE IN LEGACY, which tells the story of Joshua's life as a black man in America, and his journey from poverty and abuse to thriving as a father, husband, performer, and educator.

The UNCW Symphonic Band’s performance is entitled MESSAGES and will feature La Fiera Asturiana – a Paso Doble by Michele Fernández, Steve Danyew’s Message of Light, and William Bolcom’s famed Graceful Ghost Rag. Dr. Shelley Axelson will be joining us from Radford University to conduct Ralph Vaughan Williams’s standard in the repertoire, English Folk Song Suite. We hope to see you there!

Announcing our first concert in the 24-25 Beckwith Recital Series!

With a repertoire spanning from J.S. Bach and Domenico Scarlatti to Jimi Hendrix and Elliott Carter, Michael Nicolella is recognized as one of America's most innovative classical guitarists. Described by Classical Guitar magazine as: “one of the contemporary guitar’s most gifted stars,” by Guitar Player magazine as a: “classical iconoclast, (who) continues to push the boundaries of the genre as both a composer and player,” and by the Washington Post as: “An artist with eclectic tastes and a contemplative bent…extraordinary…powerful.” He has received wide critical acclaim for his performances, recordings and compositions. Dr. Aaron Peisner, Director of Choral Activities at UNCW, is offering three workshops in October on vocal music from the Republic of Georgia.

Dr. Peisner writes, "The idea behind these workshops is twofold: (1) I want to share my love of this beautiful musical tradition, and (2) I want to sing some Georgian songs that I've never sung before, and the only way to do that is with other singers! I have designed the workshops so that each is a stand-alone event. In other words, you can feel free to attend one, two, or all three of the workshops."

The workshops are open to anyone who is interested: community members, college and high school students, music amateurs and professionals alike. Attendees should have some singing experience, but formal choral experience or music reading skills aren't necessary.

The Department of Music at UNCW invites you to the Teal Music Productions Artist Concert on September 5th at 7:30 PM in Beckwith Recital Hall. This event will feature a diverse group of new artists that span the genres of pop/rock, bluegrass, and classical music. The concert will spotlight several exciting new releases from the record label.

UNCW professor, Dr. Barry David Salwen will be performing selections from his newly released, solo classical piano album, Piano Works of Suben and Ramchandran. The family bluegrass band, Dear MariBella and the Pigkickers will be performing original songs from their newly released EP, Magnolia. Birth of the Mirth Brigade, a band that formed out of a Pop Rock ensemble at UNCW, will be performing their newly released single, “days with you,” along with another upcoming single.
