Hi, friends! It’s that time of year again when we come together as a community to support opportunities for our kids, teens, and families. We’re asking for your YES vote on Article 25 this year!

Our ask remains exactly the same as the past two years: $60,000 to subsidize recreation in the Town of Wi******er. This funding directly supports the programs and events you love, like:

⚽️ Soccer
🏀 Basketball
⚾ Baseball
🏐 Sports Clinics
💃 Dances
🎉 Teen & Youth Nights
🎊 Community Events

These programs enrich our community, providing affordable and accessible activities for children, teens, and families.

Here’s the exact wording of our warrant article:
"To see if the Town will raise and appropriate the sum of $60,000 (Sixty thousand dollars) for the purpose of subsidizing recreation in the Town of Wi******er to be paid to the E.L.M Memorial Community Center on a contractual basis."

We’re proud to share that this year, both the Board of Selectmen and the Budget Committee unanimously recommended this article.

If you have any questions about Article 25, we’d love to answer them! Feel free to call or email our office and join us at the Town Deliberative Session this Saturday, February 1st to learn more and hear how this funding impacts our community.

Your YES vote on Article 25 ensures we can continue to provide these important services and make a difference in our community.

Thank you for your ongoing support. Together, we make Wi******er an incredible place to live! 💛

Important Announcement from the ELMM Community Center:

For those who haven’t yet heard, I’m excited to announce that I’ll be welcoming a new baby, due in early March! With that in mind, I’ll be stepping away from the ELMM office during March and April for maternity leave. During this time, the office won’t be regularly staffed.

Our amazing volunteer board members will step in as needed to handle urgent needs like current/existing rentals and baseball season communications. For all other inquiries, we kindly ask for your patience, as those will be addressed when I return in May.

If you think you’ll need anything before May, I encourage you to reach out before March 1st while I’m still in the office and able to help!

Baseball/T-Ball families ⚾—registration is open online through March 15th, so be sure to sign up! Team info will roll out shortly after, with practices starting in April and games kicking off in May. We can’t wait for another great season! As always, we are looking for coaches, so don't delay in registering/volunteering!

Even while I’m away, there’s still plenty happening with the ELMM Events Committee! Check out the events calendar for exciting activities like:
🎯 Nerf Nights
🐰 Easter Egg Hunt
🎨 Paint Night
👚 Clothing Swap

Thank you for your understanding and support during this exciting time for me and my family. I can’t wait to chat with you all over the next month-or-so and then reconnect with all of you in May!

With gratitude,
Kim 💛

On this day in 1938, Governor Francis P. Murphy announced to the town of Wi******er, "I hereby dedicate these grounds, these buildings to the encouragement of the eternally glorious arts of design, of music, of drama and the practical handicraft; to the fostering of community ideals and community action; to the development of wholesome sports and recreation; to the dissemination of a spirit of neighborliness, of tolerance in opinions, of civil enterprise and good citizenship."

Happy 87th birthday to us! We hope we're living up to Governor Murphy's vision to this day.

The HISTORY of the ELMMCC

80 YEARS OF COMMUNITY IN WI******ER, NH Governor Francis Parnell Murphy's community center in Wi******er, New Hampshire lives on, honoring the sacrifices of his late mother, Ellen Lambert Murphy.

Born in Wi******er in 1877 to a poor Irish family, Francis would walk by the Alexander farm on his way to school from their rocky farm on Manning Hill Road and dream of owning it one day. 60 years later, he purchased the 29 acre farm and invested almost half a million dollars of today's money to transform the 11-room house and barn into a community center as a gift to the people of Wi******er. A self-made millionaire, found of WMUR radio and tv, and co-founder of the Thom McAn shoe company, then Governor Murphy envisioned the E.L.M.M.C.C. as a place for the community to come together.

From its opening in 1938 until his death, the town would throw a birthday celebration weekend for Governor Murphy called, "Murphy Days" as a way of showing appreciation. In return, each year he would unveil something new: from a bowling alley in 1941 to a rifle range in 1949.

Labor unions met there in the 1920s, and Wi******er women made bandages for the war effort in the 1940s. The boy scouts and girl scouts began meeting in the center in the 1970s and the Wi******er Star had offices there in the 1980s. And many Wi******er residents are part of the bowling leagues that use the center’s vintage four-lane candle pin bowling alley, which was built in the late 1940s.
