Are you "pinching" your dahlias? You absolutely should -- even if you haven't pinched the ones yet that you got at Val's Cutting Garden Collection plant sale in May!! Pinching is how you get MANY, MANY more blooms!!

Here's a great video from Erin Benzakein at Floret, showing a side by side comparison of pinched & unpinched dahlias.

The 1st photo shows one of my "pinched" stems (yes, you'll be cutting off buds!). The 2nd is the link to Erin's IG video. Just click on the QR code, save it to your Photos, then click on it in Photos, open in Safari or Instagram and it will take you to her post. Well worth it!!

We had SO MUCH FUN at Val's first on-the-farm Peony Workshop for the year this weekend! Mother Nature was kind and the group was MARVELOUS. 😎

She has two more sold-out events coming June 1 & 2 -- and is saving peonies JUST FOR THEM at 34F in our big cooler, along with other fabulous seasonal flowers & foliages 🥰

We harvest our peonies at the perfect "marshmallow" bud stage then whisk them into the cooler -- where we can literally hold them (out of water!) for weeks and weeks! That's the secret. 😉

When we get ready to use them, we just snip ✂️off the bottom inch of stem and put them in water with flower food overnight ... they plump right back up and look like they were just harvested. 💫💫💫

Also sending a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who ordered Mother's Day peonies, pre-ordered & came to our Cutting Garden Collection plant sale, and also signed up for our workshops!! 💚💚💚 You're 💯percent the reason we do what we do 😘

Learn from the master, who also happens to be an excellent speaker, full of knowledge, wisdom and practical experience (plus a phenomenal flower farmer and designer).

She's also past president of the Association of Specialty Cut Flower Growers. Don't be mad at yourself if the event sells out before you get your ticket! (It will be your biggest regret this year, bar none).
