Our Story
Nueva School for the Arts is a California Partnership Academy and one of 11 CTE Model Programs in California for the Arts, Media, and Entertainment (AME) Industry Sector. Nueva provides students with authentic learning opportunities through AME integration in the content areas, work-based learning pedagogy and sequential CTE coursework . It is one of seven small learning communities that address the individual interests and needs of 11th and 12th grade students at Windsor High School. The program serves approximately one hundred WHS students and offers a complete CTE pathway for Production and Managerial Arts students interested in designing and managing live stage productions.
Nueva students study multiple forms of practical writing, apply listening and speaking skills, conduct career research and exploration through internship experiences, and learn to create, produce, and perform for live audiences. All Nueva students are active participants in the production aspect of the program and are responsible for marketing, advertising, set and costume design and construction, lighting and sound, dance, and acting. Through the desegregation of expressive arts and the emphasis on transferable skills, the program gives students an opportunity to flourish creatively and approach learning in an innovative way.
Students study a core curriculum of English, Social Studies, and Production Design through arts integration and project based learning. Nueva has established a multitude of community partnerships with local businesses, advertising agencies, photographers, community theater groups, actors, dance companies, graphic artists, and publishers. Nueva also collaborates with local directors to produce and promote two performances a year, one original and one scripted. Students regularly intern with recording artists and composers to bring original music to the productions. Our additional consulting artists include professional musicians, dancers, actors, directors, improvisational specialists, mask-makers, as well as other professionals in the fields of corporate production, entertainment, and color consultation.
