DON'T FORGET TO PACK YOUR USED STRINGS!! We have got a pretty good starter pile. We love Piano strings, bass stings, autoharp and hammered dulcimer strings too .. along with banjo, dobro, mando, fiddle, viola, cello, 12 & 6 string guitar, electric or acoustic (and any other weird stringed instrument with metal type strings) we will take all of your used strings. Pack 'em up and drop them off at Stage 5, Stage 6, the Information Booth or the Mercantile. If any other camp wants to be a collection point just let me know .. then after the festival we will consolidate them all and ship them off to be recycled. YEAH!!!! Who knew??? Today is National String Changing day!!! Get 'em changed and throw the old ones in with your camping gear and bring them to WINFIELD for recycling. So far there are three locations that will have recycling boxes .. The info booth, Stage 5 and Stage 6. You may as well just bring all of your used strings between now and LANDRUSH to be recycled. I think we are going to set a goal of 60 pounds of strings. Let's see if we can blow that goal away. Thanks everybody and we can't wait to see you all in September.

Woohoo!! The list is out and it is pretty darn good!! We have heard first timers .. AJ Lee & Blue Summit, The Rick Fairs Band, and they are awesome!! And of course friends from the grove ... Front Porch, Haymakers, Old Sound, Sally & the Hurts, and Weda Skirts. Plus a good long list of Winfield favorites!! We are halfway there and couldn't be more excited!!

Stage 5 & the Kansas Bluegrass Association are gonna break out the used string collection box at the Kansas Bluegrass Association WinterFest next weekend at the Marriott in east Wichita. Bring in your old used strings and let's fill the box (it's about half full right now). It is gonna be a fun weekend (like always) and we get to hear some great national, regional and local bluegrass bands + we get to jam with our friends. It's a WIN WIN WIN!!! So, gather up those old strings and your axes and let's have a big ol' time!!

Guitar thieves taste like chicken! ... let's help get these axes back!

Stolen Guitars. 1/6/24. It is with a heavy heart that I am asking my sweet people of our Tulsa community to be on the lookout for these guitars. Not how I wanted to spend my Saturday night. For many, many years Stage 5 has collected used guitar strings for the Second String Project, which would distribute the used strings to third world countries that didn't have access to new or used strings. Apparently, the Second String Project is now defunct. (At least their web presence is no longer available.) And we were left with no way to pass the collected strings along.

In looking for a different alternative to just throwing them in the garbage heap (it is estimated that over 1.5 million pounds of instrument strings per year end up in landfills all across the globe). Stage 5 discovered and has partnered with “Play Back” the world’s largest string recycling program. Play back is a Cooperation between D’Addario, C.F. Martin and TerraCycle to collect and recycle used instrument strings and reduce the amount that get tossed in the trash can.

The beauty of this effort is that they will take any kind of instrument strings. Guitar, mandolin, banjo, piano, mountain & hammered dulcimer, fiddle, basses, virtually any acoustic or electric instrument strings are accepted.

So, we will obviously, have our new collection station at Winfield, at the Stage 5 camp and at any other event that Stage 5 goes to. Additionally, if you would like to have this collection station at your event/festival we would be happy to make arrangements to get it to you or take your collected strings after your event. Also, you can direct your used strings to Russell Brace or any Stage 5 Crew member and we will get them added to the stack.
