The School of Music at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts offers intensive training and career development for college, graduate, post graduate, and high school musicians. UNCSA is for students whose passion for music yearns to be grounded deeper and to soar higher. Training features private instruction with a world-class artist faculty, distinguished guest artists, weekly master

classes, studios with a small student-teacher ratio, exciting cross-disciplinary collaborations, and robust public performance experiences, including more than 150 recitals and concerts presented each year. This performance experience, combined with career development opportunities and studies in music theory, literature, and style, provides the ultimate training to help young musicians grow as both artists and professionals. Mentored by esteemed artist faculty, students have a chance to embrace who they are, and to develop the talent and skills to further pursue their passion.

We’re thrilled to announce a new partnership between UNCSA School of Music and the Winston-Salem Symphony. We are now accepting applications for string players to our Masters program who will perform and intern with the symphony. Each fellow will receive a full tuition and fees scholarship as well as a generous stipend. 🎉 If you're a violin, viola, cello or double bass player looking at graduate programs, this is a unique opportunity to study with our amazing string faculty, and get real-world arts management training. 🎻

Meet our Social Media Intern, Brianna Cantwell!✨🎶

Brianna Cantwell is a freelancing bassoonist and Marketing/Development Manager for the Piedmont Wind Symphony. She graduated from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, where she studied under Saxton Rose and Dr. Stephanie Patterson. She is a current student at the University of Rochester Eastman School of Music, completing her Master of Arts in Music Leadership under the direction of Rachel Roberts. She also serves as the Graduate Assistant of the Director’s Team in the Institute of Music Leadership at ESM.

Though working full-time in non-profit administration, she performs with The Carolina Philharmonic, the Winston-Salem Symphony, Piedmont Wind Symphony, High Point Community Orchestra, Salisbury Symphony, and Music Carolina regularly each season as a substitute bassoon. Brianna was a member of the Eastern Music Festival, Mallarmé Chamber Players 2021-22 Concert Series, Landesakademie Ochsenhausen, and has been a part of several commissions for solo bassoon and reed quintet. She also participated in an organization that arranged free private lessons and reeds for students displaced from their primary instructors during COVID-19.

Brianna has worked in Music Marketing for the last five years, where she has held positions with the Charlotte Music School as their marketer and administrative assistant, social media marketing for the UNCSA School of Music and UNCSA Bassoon Studio, as well as the Meg Quigley Vivaldi Competition and Symposium over the years. She was hired in 2022 as the Administrative Assistant for the Piedmont Wind Symphony and now holds the position of Marketing and Development Manager.

In her free time (as little as it may be), she enjoys modeling for creative photographers, taking care of her 50+ plants, and playing with her four cats: Maktub, Minka, Owen, and Ivey.
