I will make this as short and sweet as possible. The story begins in 1971, my first job, ever, other than babysitting (mostly for my brother Dick’s kids). As it goes, Dick casually mentioned to our mother that he needed help at the flower shop (Dick’s Flowers). Mom, as moms do occasionally, threw me under the bus and told him that I wasn’t doing anything! (I was attending LCCC, not sure what I was going to become but it was a start). So, he hired me on the spot. Shy, timid, reserved as well as #11 out of 14 children and called “the quiet one” by dad went to work at Dick’s Flowers in October of 1971. The first week I worked I know I made over 500 bows for, you guessed it, Christmas wreaths and poinsettias. Got pretty good at it too! My love for flowers and designing grew over the years. By 1975 I was married and expecting a baby, so, Jeffrey was hired cause I was gonna be off 4 weeks! YIKES
A real fast “ fast forward “ moment here, after Dick passed in 1997 Jeffrey and I continued to work until 2005 when he decided to open his store and as you can imagine was very hesitant knowing he needed employees who knew the business like he did. We use to joke about him and I working together so here was his chance and asked if I would really come to work with him! Of course I said yes! I told him to put his name in lights and that I’d be there.
HE DID, so, I DID! (We were taught if you promised someone something, you did it!) We worked very well together and continued growing his business. We were even like an old married couple, hahaha, now that’s funny!
But, this past January 14 that all came to an end as Jeffrey was called to join his heavenly family and friends. It’s been a very hard year without him. God gave me 9 brothers and I always considered Jeffrey as my 10th brother. I now feel that he opened the door for me as well. So with much consideration and trepidation I have decided to retire from 53 years of bow making and floral designing. I will miss ALL my loyal customers, they just don’t make customers like you all anymore. I sincerely feel this is the perfect timing for me to hang up the ribbon and flowers and enjoy life with whatever time I have left on this earth.
I will MISS-you all!
