Ok, been a week since Hordefest X - 2022 and my “retirement”. Time to get through this. Gonna be LONG! Gonna cover EVERYTHING….so read through!!!!
First of all, last Saturday: God Bless all that came out! I was blessed by the friends that came out to say “goodbye”! I was SUPER BLESSED to be surprised by a girlfriend from my old Nor Cal Neighborhood Cory Condon to show up and be there! Stupid super special moment! Thank you to the amazing infrastructure of the stage/lights/PA/crew of Austin Taylor PRODUCTIONS! The talent that graced that stage: Alive 85, Past Curfew, Diamond Star Halo….WOW!, SoulShiver and Jam Academy Music School! So many Veterans of Hordefest on that stage! The kids of JAM ACADEMY have grown and matured as musicians so much that a couple of them will be headliners soon! HUGE sloppy kisses to my “Phil Schafer”, my Potawan, my Replacement…. Sir Isaac Lime!!!
Now for my 16 year promotion career. I never did it alone! I had the trust and support of so many I call friends today! All need a big soppy kiss, but there are a few worth mentioning: Nicole Nicole (thank you Both for EVERYTHING), CLUB MOTOR Joe Mailloux who taught me on my first big ALS show “..,sometimes you get it in an hour, sometimes you get in 13 hours….”, The Cookhouse/Indian Palace Restaurant who was my FIRST paid promoter gig, Horseshoe Saloon where I eventually became an owner….RIP Jim Rimoczi, I wish we got our financial differences figured out so we could be friends and hang out again before you passed. jim’s legendary punk rock leather jacket is one of my prized possessions! Heidi Geddes and the Yuppy Pawn Shop…miss ya momma! Chase Culp….I can’t say enough! Gave me legitimacy early on while I was managing The Uprise Of a Downfall, stood by me ever since. Once offered me (with full support of the rest of The Crying Spell (Official) management of his band when he was the best at it…..I LOVE YOU BROTHER! And all of TCS! I could NEVER have done ANY IF THIS WITHOUT YOU! Last but not even close to least, a name most might have forgotten but not least. Straw…aka Tre of Epidemic Productions, 2nd biggest mentor as a promoter! We respected eachother for our understanding of how this music business worked. He taught me a ton! (Love ya man…you still owe me money…lol)
Quick mention of my dearest friends who I spent a long time managing while they were just kids but already so accomplished in this game! John Thornburg, Russ Thornburg, Julio Padada. Then Known as JAR, then Jar of Rain. Today the kick ass as Asterhouse. You continue to make me proud today. Our time together is cherished! I wish we ended on better circumstances, but certain people that got between us ….got theirs! Lol!!!
ALS. ALS. ALS!
I tried to save the world with no real resources from the day my mother told us she had it in 2008. I spent 13 years trying to leverage an concept and a passion for awareness that could later result in bigger dollars than were and are STILL BEING RAISED for this disease. Yes, I’m still claiming the beginning of ! I started Rock Out ALS not knowing wtf I was doing. I ended up working with the best of Seattle unsigned music for a decade! Tried to go “legit” too late. By the time a 501c3 non profit was in place, I was in trouble, and had to start fixing my own life.…too many formative years had already gone by and ROALS hadn’t been adopted by someone bigger to make it a career that I could continue that great vision and sustain myself. Thank you to those that tried to make it ”something”: Neil A. Lim Sang, SUPER STEPH, Floyd Murrill, Bob Jackson, , and everyone else! Biggest props to my Brother from another mother, my partner in crime from day one of my ALS fight, Mr. B. I. Double G, BIGGNate Robbins…I employ his son in law today! Jeremy Wheeler (and of course Bobbi Wheeler!), first photographer to keep coming Ming back and responsible for almost All of my memories being caught so I can remember them when I’m senile!
Along this entire journey there are so many to mention. More sloppy kisses, but there are a few very special people needing thank you’s for their individual contribution and influence….
My brother Rich Nesheim. Not only have you trusted me with Hordefest for a decade, but you have treated me like an equal. The BEST thing I ever did was introduce you to the ALS cause. You have done so much more with beer than I could have ever with music for this horrific disease! Thank you!
Shannon Shryne and Robin Hartman, of Augie's Quest and formerly the EVERGREEN CHAPTER respectively. Advice, respect, mentorship, friendship and appreciation. Thank you!
MOST OF ALL, the biggest sacrifice I made taking all these risks …..my FAMILY. Janell Miller who gratefully is still by my side through all of this after 34 years….new beginnings “Pretty Lady”, my kids: Andrew Miller, miller, Bryan Miller and his amazing wife Megan. Again, new beginnings! Love you SOOOO MUCH.
Have I made mistakes? Of course I have! HUGE ONES THAT MIGHT TAKE A LIFETIME TO CORRECT!!!! Didn’t know WTF I was doing but it never stopped me. Making mistakes by not mentioning a LOT of important people right now! REGRETS? Duh! A bunch, but cant imagine doing it any other way!
I did it MY WAY. GOD BLESS YOU ALL. GOOD NIGHT….get off my lawn!
