WOODSTOCK MUSIC & ART FAIR 2024
Bearsville Center

Bearsville Park is hosting Woodstock’s Music & Art Fair on Saturday October 19th from noon to 6pm.

In honor of the Famous Woodstock Art & Music Fair of 1969 (which took place 60 miles from Woodstock in Bethel, NY!) Bearsville Park, in Woodstock, is celebrating the bohemian culture of this beloved small Catskill town with a Festival in honor of its residents.

Woodstock’s deep-seated roots as a haven and inspiration for musicians and artists inspired a young Michael Lang to create his festival 55 years ago. But the Town elders prevented it….which was, in hindsight the right decision – the original Festival hosted around half a million participants.

Bearsville's over-arching aim is to raise funds for the many voluntary organizations that service the citizens and build the community of Woodstock via donations from the sale of art and other items at the Fair.

Bearsville is building a reputation for family-friendly fun with live music in a beautiful rustic setting. Known for its highly popular ‘boutique’ one-day festivals, alongside the Sawkill Creek on the western side of Woodstock, the Music & Art Fair is the last of the summer season. It takes place at the height of the Leaf Peeping season when the crimson and golden leaves of the sycamore, aspen and oak trees on the edge of the Park are seen at their best.

Interactive Arts sessions that both adults and children can enjoy – including the creation of a Community Mural under the watchful eye of super-muralist and well-known international poster artist Mike Dubois.

Painting, jewelry making, pottery and textile art will all be on show, with active artists happy to talk about their work and to invite you to ‘have a go’..

Exhibitions from Woodstock’s Voluntary organizations – always willing to recruit more people to contribute to their community-building activities.

A Market where Woodstock’s extensive artisan makers and creators are happy to show off their beautiful arts and craft and offer them for sale to the public.

Interesting displays of Green Technology
Music from longstanding Woodstock musicians Brian Mitchell (member of The Weight and leader of his own band Brian Mitchell & Friends) and Bennett Harris, who plays traditional acoustic blues on an old Gibson flat top and includes bottleneck slide as well as intricate fingerpicking to produce a unique, all-American sound.

Add to this the Autumn Leaves BBQ & Chilli Menu, plus handmade cocktails including a chilled Grog with pumpkin spice, Summer’s End Hot Apple Cider, and the ever popular Berry Martini’s and Sierra Nevada craft beer.

Top it off with nature trails, rock tours of this famous venue, and free kids activities, this whole event will be Big Fun!

Exciting news! Bluestone Quarry, Woodstock’s own rising stars, will be performing at the iconic Woodstock Music and Art Fair tomorrow! This dynamic four-piece band, known for their captivating harmonies and infectious energy, formed just last year when Chloe, Charlie Thurman, and Riley Packer discovered their shared love for vocal harmonies. Soon after, upright bass player Mark Roman joined the group, completing their unique sound.

After gaining popularity at local venues, they're now taking the stage at Bearsville! Don't miss this special opportunity to see Bluestone Quarry live tomorrow.

With the Woodstock Music & Art Fair now this Saturday, this weekend also sees the absolute peak of the stunning fall colors… and this year the reds are matching the traditional ‘barn red’ of the Catskills barns!
Come join us and enjoy Bearsville Park with its beautiful backdrop against the Sawkill Creek, and join trailsman Dave Holden for one of our Nature Walks through our woodland!

So many wonderful donations have been delivered to Woodstock Town Hall and at the former Lasher's property for Todd Rundgren's Foundation.

So many great instruments will be gifted to children across the Country!

If you have an instrument in working condition or in need of MINOR repairs and you'd like to donate - you can still do so. Please deliver to Woodstock Town Hall or 100 Tinker Street (former Lasher's) during working hours. (no pianos or keyboards please)

We thank you for your kindness and generosity! Spread the word - share the post and information.

Spirit of Harmony Foundation - read more about it. It's all for the kids! I've gotten involved because I know Levon would approve!

What was Woodstock like in the years before we lent our name to a generation? What, for this purpose, might Mill Hill Road have presented to the passerby before the world “found” us in the years prior to a certain festival? (Even though we were doing quite well, thank you.)

Bearsville Revival!

The Bearsville complex, formerly owned by John Kirkpatrick of Bearsville Associates, was sold to Lizzie Vann, of Willow, NY on Friday August 31.

The complex, which comprises going-concerns Radio Woodstock (in the Utopia building), and the stand-alone Little Bear Chinese Restaurant, also includes the empty Bear restaurant, the inactive Bearsville Theater, the Peterson House, two further residences and a barn. These are located between 277 and 297 Tinker Street in Bearsville.

Much of the compound has been empty since the winter, when Mr Kirkpatrick closed down the Bear, the Commune Saloon, and the Bearsville Theater.

Lizzie Vann commented “This golden nugget, which has been such an important part of Woodstock’s history, will be well taken care of. As a long-term investor, and a child of the sixties, I have a great affection for the history of Woodstock and of the special contribution that Bearsville has made to it.
