The world feels heavy and hopeless and sad right now. There’s no sugarcoating it. Something that unites as all, one way or another, is love.

I wasn’t going to do a reflection post, but I’ve been admittedly a bit absent from posting for a while and wanted to check in. I’ve missed you all!2024 challenged me in ways I never would’ve imagined. The year started with finding out I’d been chosen to attend a floral workshop I wouldn’t have been able to afford at the time; it was a tiny glimmer of hope in what was one of the most challenging few years of my life. I’ll be forever grateful for the friends I met during that three-day time in sunny California. I also had a total hysterectomy at the age of 34, something I knew was a likelihood but something I hoped would never actually happen.

I was able to work with some amazing vendors and freelancers. I realized every day how lucky I am to have found a life partner who sees me and knows me, and continuously meets me where I’m at. I created some truly beautiful designs, including a flower-filled July wedding in the mountains that still blows me away. I drank one too many Aperol spritzes on the Cape. We did our first-ever New England clam bake, ate and despised a steamer, and panicked at the thought of boiling a lobster so we just bought the meat and called it a day. In 2025, I’m looking forward to so many things, but planning on paring it down and keeping things more simple so I can truly create in a way that’s intentional:
✨Weddings up and down the East Coast, including two at a venue I’ve put at the top of my list since I started flowering-The Woodstock Inn.
✨NOT growing every type of flower imaginable.
✨New adventures with my husband and our fur babies. This is our last winter in Vermont and I want to make the most of it.
✨Spending more time by the sea.
✨Focusing more on being a profitable, badass business owner, including doing all of the tasks I need to do but struggle to stay consistent with.
✨Networking with fellow wedding and event vendors more consistently:
✨Hosting a three-year business birthday celebration (stay tuned)!
✨Continuing to find ways to be a healthier version of myself, in all ways. Here’s to a gentle roll into 2025, and meeting ourselves where we are, not where we want to be. Happy New Year! 🎊

When the clients, vendor team, and landscape all work together seamlessly, the results speak for themselves. This will forever be one of my favorite weddings and installs for many reasons, but one is how beautifully these designs blended with the backdrop of the Green Mountains in the high heat of summer.

A combination of locally-foraged wild olive and foliage, as well as a muted wildflower color palette of blooms handpicked both locally and from further afield, created truly spectacular living meadows lining the aisle and surrounding M+M as they exchanged vows on a balmy late July afternoon.

The vision wouldn’t have been complete without a top-tier list of vendors and assistants:

In the spirit of gratitude and giving back, I’m very excited to announce a new offering that will be live on my website this week.

Starting in 2025, I will be offering one pro-bono wedding per year to a couple dealing with severe chronic illness. Special consideration will be given to those suffering from endometriosis, PCOS, adenomyosis, ovarian/uterine/cervical cancer, and other serious diseases of the female reproductive system. I will have an application on my website where you’ll have an opportunity to tell your story. All applications will be due no later than March 1 to usher in Endometriosis Awareness Month. More details and specifics will be available this week, but the basics are:

💛I will offer my design services at no cost to one couple per year. This means no design fees, and no delivery, installation, or breakdown fees. We can discuss travel costs if that scenario arises.
💛Couples will cover the wholesale cost and shipping cost of florals and hard goods.
💛I want to make life even a little easier, especially since I know how many tens of thousands of dollars these diseases can cost over the course of a lifetime. I want this couple to have beautiful wedding flowers regardless of their financial situation.
💛All applications will be due by March 1. I will announce the candidates by the end of March and couples will have the right of first refusal.

Many of you know my story and lifelong struggles with chronic illness and pain. This past February, after nearly two decades of surgeries, procedures, medications, dozens of doctors, misdiagnoses, and more, I made the difficult decision to have a total hysterectomy in order to hopefully achieve even a slightly improved quality of life. While endometriosis has no cure, this surgery did cure me of adenomyosis and cut my pain by at least 50%, most of the time. I have a history of this disease coming back with a vengeance, so while I remain hopeful, I know there’s a major chance of it returning and needing more surgeries in the future. This post isn’t meant to be an educational one about endometriosis, but I’m always happy to sit down and talk about my experience in the hopes it can help someone else. 💛

We are in our transparency era.

We are working with clients who align with our vision, vibe, personality, and aesthetic in 2025 and beyond.

We are focused on being open, honest, and communicative with our pricing and expectations.

We are charging for our time, experience, talent, and then adding tax.

We are setting clear and respectful boundaries, and expecting our clients to adhere to those boundaries.

We are compassionately redirecting clients to other florists who may be a better fit financially.

We are not bowing down to “Well I have competitive quotes from so-and-so florist, and they can do it cheaper.” They can’t. They’re just doing something different and it’s not our job to accept less than what we are worth.

We are zip tying full trees to tent posts because that’s what we do. We go above-and-beyond for our clients. We don’t settle for a few strands of smilax when we could be combining it with local birch trees.

It’s taken me a very long time to understand my value as a designer and an artist, and now that I am there, I’m here to boost the rest of you up who may be living in their imposter syndrome era. Do I still get imposter syndrome? Absolutely. Am I letting that define the work I do and the clients whom I work with? Absolutely not. If someone doesn’t want to work with you within the parameters YOU set as a leader in your field, they ain’t your client, honey, and they never were. Let them skip down the road to Smoke and Dahlia, who “can do it cheaper.” And clients, we 100% understand budgetary constrictions and will always try to work magic within your budget, but sometimes the vision and the budget just don’t align, and that’s okay. However, my advice to clients is when it comes to your florals and design pieces, cheap is cheap. If you are okay with that, awesome! But without those “wow” elements, what is there?

We are not chasing after those who were never meant to be a part of our journey, and all you need to do is reach out to me if you need that reminder, too.

What’s your why?

Is it money? Fame? Success? Peace? Why are you chasing your dream?

You may know How, and What, it is your after. You may even know Who. But Why? That should be what drives you, what keeps you going when times are challenging, or leads aren’t coming in, or you aren’t finding vendors who align with you or your vision for your wedding. Your “Why.”

My How: A lot of things, but after years of frustration in my career as an educator, I needed to push into a world I didn’t even know what possible. I quit my teaching job with the support of my husband, and threw myself fully into flowers.

My What: Hi! I’m your honest, open, quirky, romantic, whimsical, luxury floral designer. I can’t wait to be on your team.

My Why: My why. It’s many things, but it’s mostly creating memories. Memories for my clients, their families, and guests. Memories to save for a rainy day. Inspired floral design, beyond what can be dreamt. Memories for my family. My success story will be when I can support my family, take them on vacations, support them when they need it, and give where I’m able. My why exists solely in memories, and in the people who help create them.

What’s your why?

Last fall, announced they’d have a few of these trial campanula available for purchase in trays of 25, and I jumped at the opportunity to trial something brand new to the flower market! I’m so glad I did, because these are the most lovely Canterbury bells I’ve ever seen.

These were planted out in late November and overwintered in our high tunnel, zone 5 (Woodstock, Vermont). They love the cold, so I was advised to plant them as close to the outer tunnel walls as possible. I’m not going to lie; earlier this spring when I went to check on them, even my husband was skeptical as to whether they were going to make it. They looked like sad little leaves barely pulling through. But now, they have a roughly 8-10 inch foliage base with 16-18” spikes (2-3 by my count per plant!).

Description: “Evergreen” has sturdy stems about 16-18” long, and while they aren’t as large/hefty as traditional campanula, they’d be perfect in wedding work and bouquet work. Their blooms are almost a pale lime green ever-so-slightly tinted with blush pink with tough, darker green foliage.

I cut a few stems this morning to test their vase life, so more on that later. You’ll want to cut these when the first buds open, as the rest of the buds will open in the vase.

Next up, “Kilimanjaro!” Those appear to be a week or two behind the “Evergreens,” but I’m so excited to see how they turn out.
