1/23/25 8AM: While the snow was pretty, we are not sad to see it melting! Our offer still stands as night temps remain below freezing—we will be happy to come over and open for those in need.

1/22/25 8AM: We are moving our one guest to our home today, so we will not have anyone on-site. However, we can be at the building within 10 minutes if anyone needs a warm space.

1/21/25 4PM: We will continue to house those in need of warm shelter tonight. If the door is locked, knock or call our number.

UPDATE: 1/21/25 8AM: We will have the building open all day for anyone who needs to come in out of the cold. We’re already drinking our coffee and watching the snow coming down this morning.

UPDATE 1/20/25 10PM: Since we now have one person sheltering at the building, we will have someone onsite through the night. The doors will remain locked, but you can call or knock on the door.

UPDATE: We do have a few air mattresses, and someone has offered blankets if we need them. Our biggest hurdles currently are:

1) identifying those who are at risk, and
2) convincing them to come stay somewhere warm for a couple of days.

If you know someone who has no heat and should come stay, let us know. We will go visit them personally and talk to them.

A personal message from owners Mike & Holly Rabalais to our Woodville friends:

When we purchased this building 5+ years ago, we knew it was for a purpose far greater than we could ever imagine. It has been a community icon for 120+ years, and we are just its stewards during this time.

We are facing weather like we haven’t had in years (if ever!) in our community. We have met so many neighbors since moving here, and we know there are those who do not have working utilities in their homes. Some of you reading this are already thinking of names.

While we cannot open our doors to every person who lives in a chilly, drafty home or doesn’t want to be stuck in a house with their kids or husband 🤣, we *can* offer a warm space for those who are in critical need. We are not affiliated with any government, religious, or private organization. We are just a couple of people who know that we’re supposed to love others not just in word, but action because that’s what God has called all Christ-followers to do.

****
PLEASE reach out to us if you or someone you know is in danger with these extreme cold temperatures! We will take people on a case-by-case basis.
****

We will have tables, chairs, bottled water, and hot coffee. We do not have cots, blankets, pillows, or beds, but I’m sure we’ll figure something out if we need to. Please share to help get the word out. You can message us on Facebook. We also have our number listed on our page. Call or text!

Our first event of the year was for a return client who took a chance on us way back in 2019 when we were first getting started. We had fun with this unique theme for Lawanda’s 54th and can’t wait to have her back next year!

(And we're throwing it back to Million's Mardi Gras themed birthday party last year with this image!)

The Historic Planters Building

The Historic Planters Building, constructed in 1903 by Planters Mercantile Company, has served the Woodville community for over 100 years as a mercantile, hardware store, gift shop, and cafe. In 2019, Gather LLC purchased the building to preserve its history and its place in the community.

Available now for rentals, 4,000 square feet of first-floor event space in Planters showcases exposed brick walls, rustic hardwood floors, a front wall full of windows, and a 16-foot beaded-wood ceiling. An additional 2,000 square feet serves as kitchen/prep area, restrooms, and office space.

A wide, mahogany-stained staircase leads to the mezzanine level. The mezzanine is a more intimate space with a 7-foot ceiling and just over 1,800 square feet overlooking the first floor. 1,000 square feet of the mezzanine is available for events beginning January 2021.

The upper floor was once filled with all types of furniture and later used as storage space. A double staircase leads to the 5,500-square-foot space wrapped in plaster walls and 24 floor-to-ceiling windows. The 12-foot ceiling once opened to a skylight that served the entire building before electric lights were installed. Ask to have a peek at this magical space!
