On October 11th, Michael Greaff was working on a job when the nails securing the joists gave away and he fell about 10-12 feet hitting his head on the concrete.
He was life-flighted to Herman Memorial in The Woodlands where he is currently being treated by their great Neurosurgery and Trauma Center.
He sustained several injuries. The most severe being multiple fractures to his skull and swelling of the brain.
He is being kept sedated so his brain can focus on healing and to help decrease the swelling. The swelling has to decrease before anything else can be focused on.
Update 10/30
Neuro- he is off all sedation meds. They will have to wait until he is awake enough to follow commands to determine frontal lobe damage. As he wakes up they referred it to a newborn. His eyes may open but he really can't see. Then he will start looking around but really can't focus or see anything. Then he will start trying to focus and see. We don't know how long this process will take.
Kidneys are slowly improving every day. He has lost 46 lbs of the 72 lbs he gained in fluids. So his kidneys are pulling off the fluid. No need for dialysis right now.
Lungs are very slowly getting better. They have the breathing rate set at 20 breaths per minute. He is averaging 26. That means he is taking some breaths on his on. Still no trach yet. He is still getting his breathing treatments.
Heart rate is still in the 120s but it could be from all the meds still in his system or pain.
By the end of the day he will only be on IV fluids, food in the feeding tube, and an antibiotic. They are decreasing his pain meds. They could add to the sedation.
He now has an infectious disease doctor to see what all the blisters and rash are from. It looks very painful. There are a lot of blisters. They got a sample to do a culture test to see what it is. They really don't have any answers for the blisters and rashes.
Please continue to pray for complete healing and that he is able to go through the wake up process fairly quickly. We are able to talk to him and been playing music for him. He has started the process of opening his eyes some. Usually it happens when they rotate him. I'm just so ready for him to wake up.
Thank you again for all the prayers and support!!!!!
I know none of his progress would have been possible without the prayers and our Lord Jesus Christ!!!! Lord, I thank you and give you all the glory!!!!! Confessing that Michael is going to be a walking, talking, and complete healing miracle so we can share with others!!!
Please keep Michael, Gina, Karlea, Caleb and Kenner in your prayers, as well as the entire Greaff family and their loved ones.
We have started a fundraiser to help the family cover unexpected expenses that may arise during this difficult time.
Please donate if you feel led to. But most of all the family appreciates all of your thoughts and prayers.
We serve a Mighty God and we know that Michael is in His hands 🙏🏼
