Last week, Leveled Ballet classes took their Ballet Vocab & Dance History quizzes. Top scores were rewarded with Maria Tallchief dollar coins and quarters and R&C merch.
Anna Jones - Level 1; Amelia Cathey - Level 2; Emma Waggoner- Level 3; Emily Chavez & Evelyn Keller - Level 4; Elizabeth Phillips & Ellie Keller - Level 5.
I’ve explained the reason behind these lessons and quizzes many times but recently came across a beautiful explanation from and would like to share his words:
“Artistry doesn’t grow in a vacuum. It comes from understanding-from studying the context, the music, the era, the characters, the why behind the what.
Without that, dancers become mimics, not artists.
Imagine a Shakespearean actor who’s never read Shakespeare. That’s what’s happening in ballet studios all over the world.
Technique without history is empty. Performance without knowledge is shallow.
If you want to embody a role-not just dance it-you have to know where it came from, what it meant then, and what it could mean now.
Artistry isn’t just about how you move. It’s about what you know when you move.”
At R&C, we create well-rounded, SMART artists. Not mimics.
