TeNeil has a dance/arts management degree from Oklahoma City University, a college just named one of the top 10 dance schools in America. After teaching full time and managing a studio in Oklahoma City and directing the Spirit of Grace dance team at OCU, TeNeil was company manager for Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma and spent 3 seasons as company manager for Tulsa Opera. Upon moving back to rural Oklaho

ma, she founded and directed Praise Revolution, a liturgical dance team, and also started and directed a summer dance & musical theatre dance camp for kids called Dance Revelation. Revelation & Co. is founded on the premise that dance is art. It is God inspired and is a part of our lives to be a joy, a love, a grace. While dancers must be strong as any athlete, dance is subjective and not black-and-white like competitive sports. All that said, a strong foundation in proper dance technique is required if a dancer wants to progress to her full potential in the art of dance. It is the goal of Revelation & Co. to inspire beauty and greatness in every dancer while providing a strong foundation in dance alignment, placement, and footwork that makes up correct dance technique. At Revelation & Co., you will find a nurturing, professional, non-competitive, performing arts environment where the love of dance and all performing arts is cultivated and where art meets and, in turn, creates revelation in every aspect of a dancer's life.

I don’t always do this but I felt like this little guy needed a whole carousel of photos 😂 Kareem Johnson is the December Early Childhood Classes Student of the Month!! Kareem is in Pre-K at the ECC and in Miss Lorna’s Tuesday Creative Movement class here at R&C. This is his first year of dance. Here are some other fun facts about Kareem:

1. What is your favorite thing about the Christmas season? And why? Getting presents because I like toys
2. What is on your Christmas Wish list this year and why? A remote control Megladon monster truck because they are cool and they go fast.
3. What is your favorite Christmas movie and why? Cars Christmas because they have racecars.
4. What has been your favorite thing about dancing at R&C? Doing the dance stuff.

The Early Childhood Classes November Student of the Month is Jenesis Lopez. Jenesis is a 2nd grader at Highland Park and this is her 2nd year at R&C. She is in ballet, tap, & jazz 1. Here are some other fun facts about Jenesis:

1.) Are you a cold weather person? Why or why not? I don’t like cold weather because it gets really cold.

2.) What is you favorite Thanksgiving dinner food and why? I like turkey because it’s yummy.

3.) What are you most thankful for and why? I’m thankful for my friends because I get to play with them at recess and I’m thankful for my family because they take care of me.

4.) What has been your favorite thing about taking dance at R&C? My favorite thing is when we get to wear our costume for the recitals. I like doing leaps and freeze dance.

The November Leveled Classes Student of the Month is Adalyn Compston!! Adalyn is an R&C OG so what more perfect time for her to be acknowledged than right before our fall show honoring our 10th year!! Adalyn is in musical theatre sr and jazz & ballet 4. She is a 6th grader at Mooreland Public Schools and, as mentioned before, this is her TENTH year at R&C!! Here are some other fun facts about Adalyn:

1. Are you a cold weather person? Why or why not? I am not a cold weather person because I do not like getting bundled up to do chores. I have show goats I have to feed and work with twice a day, even in the very cold weather! Their water sometimes freezes and I do not like breaking ice before school!

2. What is you favorite Thanksgiving dinner food and why? My favorite Thanksgiving food is mashed potatoes and gravy. You can’t go wrong with potatoes.

3. What are you most thankful for and why? I am most thankful for God, my family and my friends.

4. What has been your favorite thing about taking dance at R&C? I have so many memories from the last 10 years! But I think my favorites include winning Student of the year in 2020 and being in every one of Revelation and Co’s recitals. Also, dancing with some of my very best friends.

The Leveled Classes Student of the Month is Madeline Waggoner. Madeline is an 8th grader at WMS. She is an OG R&C student who has been with us since 2014!! This is her 10th year of dance at R&C!! Madeline is in Musical Theatre Sr and Level 5 Tap, Jazz, and Ballet. Here are some other fun facts about Madeline:

Do you still go trick or treating? If so, what are you dressing as this year? Duh! I’m going as a 90s rapper with a few friends.

4) What is your favorite R&C moment so far? Dancing with my older sister for a year in Diamonds and Pearls performance company.

1) What was your favorite thing you did this summer and why? Going swimming, because I got to swim with my friends.
2) What is your favorite subject in school and why? Math! Because it's really fun and sometimes I get to color.

4) What is your favorite R&C moment so far? Being on Stage for Villains, Inc. Because it was the first time I've been on stage to Dance. (She also really loves doing leaps in class.)

He’s in Musical Theatre Jr and Jazz 4, and he also plays the trombone in the middle school band and is active with On Stage Woodward. This is his 6th year at R&C! Here are some other fun facts about McKinley:

1. What was your favorite thing you did this summer and why? Spending time with my Mimi and Pap in West Virginia. The reason it is my favorite is because they have always made me feel like their actual grandson.
2. What is your favorite subject in school and why? My favorite subject in school is History because I love learning something from our past and getting invested and sharing my new fun facts I learned with my teacher and friends
3. If you could pack one thing in your lunch bag every day, what would it be and why? Pizza. Because I buy it half the time at lunch anyway.
4. What is your favorite R&C moment so far? Playing the Joker, but really all of R&C and getting back to it.

Number 1: Connection

At R&C, there is a non-competitive, professional environment. As we learn to connect with an audience through our art, we learn to connect with ourselves and with our fellow team of dancers. We learn and we grow together….each student on their own timeline.

The famous Mikhail Baryshnikov once said “I do not try to dance better than anyone else. I only try to to dance better than myself.” At R&C, we believe when a student focuses on their own growth, feelings of insecurity and bitterness and inadequacies are lessened. Students can pull from each others strengths and weaknesses to create the absolute best art.

Number 2: ART

At R&C, we recognize that dancers are athletes. They must be strong, agile, and coordinated. They must treat their bodies well and train to reach their goals. But what sets dance apart from athletics is that dance is art and, therefore, is subjective. Most measurements in sport are black and white (a goal in soccer is 1 point; the winning runner has the fastest time), but measurements in art are birthed by the eye of the beholder AND the creator. A simple 3 step turn (chainé) can be as boring as the day is long, but with the right inflection, emotion, and music, it can portray fear, love, sorrow, or joy to an audience. And because each member of an audience views art with a different lens (background, personality, trauma) with just one step, dance can tell 100 different stories at the exact same time.

At R&C, even 3 year olds learn that dance is art and that it tells a story. We discuss emotions in every class. What they are. How we connect with them within ourselves. And how we communicate them to an audience. We believe dance is a wonderful, unique art that transcends verbal communication in a way that is still reciprocal between the artist and the viewer. There’s few things like it in the world. And that is one reason we are so passionate about it.

HOW TO MEASURE YOUR DANCER FOR DANCE CONCERT COSTUMES…. Use this video as a guide to measure your child for costumes if you are doubting whether or not you are doing it correctly. (This was filmed last year so disregard any mention of dates, etc)

The Woodward Arts & Theatre Council, Inc. was honored this evening at the City Council Meeting with its very own proclamation celebrating its 40th Anniversary and its contribution to the city of Woodward & the surrrounding NW Oklahoma. I and R&C Jazz 2 & Musical Theatre Sr students got the privilege of receiving it from the mayor. THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO SUPPORTED OUR ENDEAVORS THIS WEEKEND with our fall show ALL TOGETHER NOW! And thank you to Laurie Steenbergen for always putting her trust in me and R&C dancers to help bring magic to the Woodward Arts Theatre stage. We are very grateful.
