Mr. Nick “Robin” Halk, resident of Cherry Valley, Arkansas, departed this life on Sunday, May 19, 2024, in the comfort of his home surrounded by his beloved family and his loyal dog, Spotter, at the age of 62. Robin was born in Wynne, Arkansas on September 18, 1961, the son of Norman and Sue (Mooney) Halk.
Robin was a 1980 graduate of Cross County High School, and he married Lisa (Thorn) Halk on December 20, 1983. As a young man, Robin worked in farming, but he eventually found his calling as a fireman. Robin dedicated many years to the life of a fireman, serving as an EMT, master rescue diver, adjunct instructor for the Arkansas Fire Training Academy, legislative chair of the Arkansas State Firefighters Association, as a captain at Wynne Fire Department, and as chief at Cherry Valley Fire Department. In later years, Robin also worked in flooring installation and pipelining.
He was a member of Wynne Baptist Church where he enjoyed participating in Sunday school and disciple groups. Robin had a true servant’s heart; he was a volunteer coach at Cross County and Guy-Perkins School Districts, served on the Cross County School Board for more than a decade, gave to and cared for those in need, and took in many children in need of assistance through the years. Robin will forever be remembered for his selfless nature.
Robin enjoyed beginning each day drinking coffee with his parents. He loved his family, sports, being outdoors, and animals. He was forever present at all of his children’s numerous sporting events, livestock shows, award ceremonies, and more. He liked bowling, playing golf, watching wrestling, cheering on the Arkansas Razorbacks, hunting, fishing, and loving every day. Horses were always a part of Robin’s life from a young age, and he found joy in showing horses, running barrel pick-up with his children, and sharing his hobby with his family. He was also known to take in stray cats and dogs from time to time. He was notorious for telling the most detailed (and sometimes embellished) stories. Robin had many passions in his life, but the greatest of those were his Lord and his family.
Mr. Halk was preceded in death by a brother, Bruce Norman Halk; grandparents, Henry and Nelie Mooney, and Nick and Ida Halk. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Lisa Halk of the home; parents, Norman and Sue Halk of Cherry Valley; three children, Christopher Halk and wife, Jessica, Candice Brooke Halk, and CariBeth Halk-Wilder and husband, Caleb, all of Cherry Valley; a sister, Susan Diane Stephens and husband, Gary, of Cherry Valley; mother-in-law, Kay Thorn of Greenbrier; brother-in-law, Mark Thorn and wife, Shelly, of Guy; sisters-in-law, Stacey Halk of Jonesboro, and Leslie Martin and husband, Bobby, of Greenbrier; ten grandchildren, Mariah, Brenly, and Drake Halk, Kaycen Wilson, Kamdyn and Kenlea Eoff, Caeleigh Wilder, Caity Kyle, Dalton Jackson, Brady Hess; a great-grandson, Bryce Keeling; several nieces and nephews, including Brandon, Brett, Kaylen, and Kade Stephens, Jagger and Presley Halk, Kayla Tubbs, Will and Wesley Brown, and Madison Thorn; and a host of other relatives and friends.
