I up-potted my tomato and white cupcake cosmos seedlings. These guys will go into the heated greenhouse to add more growth before spring planting. It's still too early for seedlings that will transplant directly into the garden this spring.

Winter Helebores are blooming in Seattle. The days are getting longer, springs not far away.

Our sweetbox (Sarcococca) is in bloom at our Seattle home. They fill the air with a lovely, strong vanilla fragrance. A slow growing plant, these five feet bushes are over 40 years old.

We moved the temporary shop cabinets into the garage. This is the fourth home for them, and probably not the last. They were originally purchased for storage at my old office, then used in the old solarium before it was torn down to make room for the new garage/shop/artroom, temporary shop cabinets and now a perfect fit in the corner of the garage.

I am trying the zip lock bag winter seeding method this year. I had tons of harvested snapdragon seeds and old leftover vegetable seeds, so no loss if it doesn't work. I don't have raised beds to hang them on, so we made a shelf and used the fence as a rail. Check back this spring to see if it works.

Even after the freezing cold and snow, we still have green snapdragons. This is what you call a cold tolerant plant, unlike the geraniums I picked from the greenhouse to make this arrangement.

I potted up our succulent spillers and transferred them to the cedar greenhouse for winter. I trimmed all the Baby Sun Rose and Purple Heart runners from last year and put them in water to root. These work great in deck pots in sunny or semi-shade locations but do need to be brought inside for winter.

We are planning to espalier our front walk Euonymus vine this spring using leftover patio cabling. We are slowly pulling the larger trunk vine closer to where we hope it will be and starting to train the laterals that will tie to the new cables.

Santa's Workshop Project 2024: This year, we made stained glass and wood bookends for Christmas gifts. The wood was reclaimed Hawaiian Koa and Maple.

It was a nice sunny winter afternoon yesterday. Rocke was able to blow more of the newly fallen leaves into the rosebeds for winter protection, and the remainder he mulched into the lawns. I cleaned and prunned the tree peonies. Their spring buds are already swelling.

It's that time of year when all good gardening tools get cleaned, wooden handles conditioned with mineral oil, metal with WD-40, and edges sharpened before being hung up for winter.

In the right-hand corner is a picture of where everything goes. This year, all but one tool came off the wall before the gardening season ended. They are well used.

Santa's Workshop Gifts. You can't have Raindeer without a sleigh. Another bandsaw project using scrapes of exotic woods. This one, we dried and milled Sycamore branches from our tree prunning and used them for the sides.
