“With deep sorrow and a profound sense of loss for his wife Donna, his family and friends, and the entire Town of Yorktown, we regret to inform you of the tragic news that Yorktown Town Supervisor Tom Diana passed away this morning.

Tom was an incredible friend to so many. He was filled with energy, an open mind and heart, and a sense of duty and that influenced everything he did.

We will communicate with Yorktown residents as more details become available while we process this tragic moment for our community.”

Thank you to all who donated for our Sons of the American Legion Squadron 1009 Ham for the Holidays drive for St. Mary's food pantry. Feeding needy local families in Yorktown. We started with 20 hams donated by Shoprite Mohegan/Cortland and ended totaling 57 hams and several bags of groceries through the generosity of Yorktowners who stopped by to donate. Merry Christmas.

Ham for the holidays. Sons of the American Legion Squadron 1009 is sponsoring a ham collection for St. Mary's food pantry. Tuesday, December 12th from 11 to 1 at the Jack Devito Veterans Memorial Field Gazebo. Please bring a ham, canned goods, or cash donations. Thank You!

The sons of the American Legion are at the Jack Devito, Veterans Memorial field, collecting ham for the holiday to help the food pantry at St. Mary’s. We will be here from 11 AM to 2 PM. We are accepting hams, canned goods, and cash donations.

Our Yorktown Post #1009 has teamed up with the two local funeral homes, Yorktown Funeral Home and the Clark and Giordano Funeral Home, for several years to offer our 'Rendering Honors' ceremony when a veteran is being viewed. These funeral homes offer this ceremony to the families and our Post is notified and performs this final salute for our fellow veterans.
On Tuesday evening our Post Legionnaires and Sons members were on hand at Yorktown Funeral Home to conduct this ceremony for an Air Force veteran and his family.

Some more shots from Saturday's Vietnam Memorial Dedication . 17 members of our Yorktown Post #1009 and our Sons Squadron #1009 took part in the Yorktown Veterans Day Ceremony and dedication of a new Vietnam War monument at Yorktown's monument park this morning at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. The significance of this day and time is known to all veterans. This is the time that the guns of World War I finally went silent ending this horrendous war. Thank you to all Post members who came out for this special event. Happy Veterans Day!

While we all are trying to make ends meet, there is a huge issue with food insecurity this year, with more and more families and Veterans needing assistance from our food banks. Please consider helping with a donation of a Turkey or a Ham for the Holidays! Even the "free" turkey or ham you earn with points is a welcome donation to those in need.

The number of families using local shelters has increased.
