Over the years this is the sentiment that has resonated with market operators over and over again.
Farmers markets don't just happen without MARKET OPERATORS. While no two farmers markets are the same, all farmers markets are managed and require huge amounts of work behind the scenes to thrive. From navigating local laws and codes, building vendor relationships, troubleshooting technical issues, marketing, and physically setting up the market. Markets continue to put in the effort to better themselves in order to support their communities from innovating new nutrition incentive programs and supporting farmers, to partnering with outside organizations to foster more inclusive and equitable spaces for all members of their communities. The culture of farmers markets is changing, and thatโs thanks to farmers market operators who seek to foster markets as community hubs and move the narrative of farmers markets beyond the status quo.
Farmers markets don't just happen without VENDORS. Farmers, ranchers, artisans and other producers make up the vast network of people who rely on farmers markets for their economic livelihoods. Vendors make up the heart and character of every market and it's thanks to their dedication to farm-direct outlets that farmers markets serve as a hub for local food systems in communities across the country.
Farmers markets don't just happen without CUSTOMERS. Every single person who supports a farmers market is helping the market thrive! Without visitors who come out (rain or shine, baby!) farmers markets could not come back week after week. Farmers markets are truly a collective affair and wouldn't be possible without every single community member.
While the magic often happens behind the scenes, this we'd love to hear about the people, programs, partners, etc, that pull together to make your market happen! Drop some appreciation in the comments or tag us in your posts! ๐
