More than 40 balloons will light up at Spring Forest Road Park in Raleigh and Bennett Bunn Plantation in Zebulon Friday through next Monday for free viewings and $15-20 tethered rides.

Wow! One week away!!

We are one week away from the WRAL Freedom Balloon Fest. Things are coming together for the event. We had a beautiful evening at Bennett Bunn Plantation to do some crew and pilot training on the new basket for Project UpLift (www.wralfreedomballoonfest.com/project-uplift-nc.html). This will really bring smiles to people with mobility issues for years to come thanks to the Raleigh Jaycees.

Randy Lee and his big beautiful hot air balloon. A beautiful afternoon. A great sendoff and landing. Great views of Bennett Bunn Plantation! A great couple! It was simply a great way to wrap up another wonderful day. Then to top it off...a surprise proposal...and she said YES!!! Priceless!! Congratulations to Caleb and Emily!!

Hot air balloon pilots have the privilege of sharing lots of special moments - milestone birthdays and anniversaries, for example.
But, by far, engagement flights are a favorite.

Yesterday, WRAL Freedom Balloon Fest volunteer and pilot, Randy Lee of Carolina High Ballooning in Benson got one of those special flights.

The launch site was Bennett Bunn Plantation. The passengers were Zebulon sweethearts Caleb Creech & Emily Williams

The flight was for her birthday. But during the traditional post-flight toast, Caleb and Emily were joined by family and friends down by Perry's Pond where Caleb proposed to Emily. And, she said yes!

Post flight and proposal, they commented, "Best day ever! Made this a memory that will last a lifetime."

And, they got to check out Bennett Bunn Plantation from a unique vantage point. The farm is well known for their weddings and corporate retreats... Maybe Caleb was hinting at a rustic, farm wedding... Congratulations Caleb and Emily. Thanks for letting us share your story and photos.
