For those of you who don't know, I own and operate a small, full service video production company in Zeeland. I opened up MOVE Media's doors in 2016, and, thankfully, business has always been consistent and good. I have some amazing clients who I have worked with since Day 1, and I owe them my undying appreciation.

However, growing the business is long overdue. A goal of mine in 2023 is to put forth a greater effort to substantially grow MOVE Media.

Amongst many other strategies, I thought it made sense to simply post directly to my FB page. My FB friends and family work in all sorts of industries, and every one of those businesses either already uses or certainly needs to begin utilizing the power of video, whether it be professionally produced, or just with a cell phone.

Typically, it is just me on video shoots. I also take care of all of the behind the scenes tasks (script writing, graphic design, editing, etc.). Being a one man show allows me to offer the most affordable pricing structure, and the absolute quickest turnaround times.

MOVE Media also consults businesses on how to produce video entirely on their own, though, IMO, pro is the way to go :).

Little known MOVE Media facts:
1. My very first client was the United States Green Building Council (USGBC), West Michigan Chapter. Shout out to Renae Hesselink for connecting me with Cheri Holman!
2. My biggest client is Trinity Health (formerly Mercy Health). That connection is all thanks to Joan Carlson Kessler. Come to think of it, Mercy may even have been my second ever client. MOVE Media's relationship with Trinity continues to flourish, thanks to Lauren Smoker and so many others.
3. My wife, Heather, green lit my decision to start a business with just a single client/project on the books!!!
4. This is my second and chosen career. I returned to college in my 30's to earn a film and video degree.

With that said, video is an indispensable modern tool in helping to tell the story of a company or organization in a compelling way.

It's been quite a while since I posted a MOVE Media produced video. I put this one together for the Norton Shores Police Department / City of Norton Shores. The target audience is high school students, which is why we decided to put a fun spin on it.

A quick description of the Ride With Pride program from their website:

RWP is a partnership between law enforcement, schools, and generous community sponsors coming together to encourage safe behaviors and acknowledge our kids who are making positive choices. Students who adhere to the pledge that they sign at the beginning of the school year become eligible for a host of prizes, including a car.

Michigan Irish Music Festival - Sept. 12-15 2019

MOVE Media is a Premier Partner with the Michigan Irish Music Festival this year, acting as the exclusive video producer at the 4-day event (September 12-15). I'm excited to be part of this fantastic festival!

Backmagic just Killed ALL cameras under $15k announcing EF MOUNT Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K

So, it happened! My favorite camera company, Blackmagic, just surprise released their all new pocket cinema camera. Of course, I've owned my BM cam for under a year, and there's already a new one out. It's 6k, Super 35, records in RAW, and has a Canon EF mount, all for $2500! Cameras on the market with comparable specs go for $10,000-$25,000. For my videographer friends, this is an even bigger game-changer than the 4k version was. The excitement on You Tube about this camera is obvious. With all of that said, I won't be getting this beast anytime soon. Perhaps in next year's camera budget. ;)

ONE man plays EIGHT instruments at once!!!

Sometimes less is way more. Here are the advantages to hiring a smaller video production company, a one man shop, like MOVE Media.

1. Affordability - For a given project, I might quote $3G, when others are coming in at $8G.
2. Turnaround time - Measured in days/weeks, not weeks/months.
3. One point person - Easier communication, zero bureaucracy.
4. Very low overhead - Equates to more freedom to explore creative options and expand/alter the scope/direction of the project with ease.
5. Consistency in messaging and the look of the video - With a single video producer performing all tasks, it's much easier to maintain a consistent style of video and really hammer home messaging.
6. Revision requests are quickly and easily accomplished. A client shouldn't ever feel hesitant about asking for changes. The goal is to end up with a video that everyone is proud to show off.

Drone Fail

It's not much fun crashing your drone, but at least you get to watch the resulting funny footage. In this case, I got lucky and it only dropped 10' or so. It crashed in soft grass, and only the props broke off. When I got home, I immediately dug into the menu and turned off the dreaded low-battery auto land feature.

The Cost of Video Production 101 – Business Motion

Hi. I'm sharing this blog from a Lebanese Company called "Business Motion" because it does a nice job of explaining the benefits of hiring a professional video producer, at least for your larger projects, such as that first video that plays on your home page.

Keep in mind that there are production companies that send out a large team on shoot days, and might charge $25k for a given project. Conversely, there are production companies (like MOVE Media :)) that can send out crew of 1-3 professionals, charge only $5k, and produce a video comparable or better than the production company that charges 5 times more.

Muskegon Catholic Central Fund-A-Need 2019 Video

So, a friend of mine contacted me last Monday with a request to produce a fundraiser video, and have it ready a mere 5 days later, on Saturday. We didn't have an opportunity to plan things out in pre-production meetings, as is typical with a project of this scope. We just counted on each other's expertise to ensure we told some inspiring stories, and made the tight deadline.

We shot all of the footage on Wednesday, I edited on Thursday/Friday, and delivered the final product late Friday. For the extremely quick turnaround, I love how this video turned out.

The funds raised at the 2019 Muskegon Catholic Central Schools Fund-A-Need Rainbow Auction will help to cover some of the costs of renovating and updating 28 classrooms. It was such a pleasure to work with everyone at the school, and I look forward to helping out on future projects!
