As with any large event where you have a disparate crowd of people grouped together, especially those who’ve known each other for so long, you’re going to have people who don’t see eye to eye. Add alcohol and social stress and anxiety and that and its a near perfect storm for a negative interaction.
A Goth Event without Drama, would something be like a bonfire without flame; however, we’re all adults here, and in many cases decades since high school. if there is someone you don’t like at an event, please do us all a favor and ignore them. You gain nothing by instigating or participating in a confrontation. In the event of an altercation, please find any of the Dj’s, the Door personnel, the mods listed below or bar staff and we will work to get the issue addressed.
There are couple of members of the scene who currently have protective orders in place. While we will do our best to recognize and comply with them, as the promoters of the event, we are fairly limited in what we can do when it comes to removing someone who’s already at the event, if they’ve made it passed the door person (where we can refuse to do business with anyone for any reason). Security at most venues, will generally not just eject someone on our say so if there is no observed offence (see the liability question raised later).
What that means, is, if you have a protective order in force, we implore you, take it to the bar staff and make them aware so that bar staff and venue security can enforce it; normally you would do this before the event, and provide the evidence and documentation to the Staff and then let them know you will be coming to the event or not so they know if they will need to worry about enforcing the order, which applies to you, and no one else.
Regarding Event Security, we’re bringing back people whom we can rely on at the door to minimize the known bad actors getting in. If there is any issue at an event; please bring it to staff’s attention it will be dealt with.
While I am aware the idea of bringing in external security has been bandied about, unfortunately its not a feasible option for a number of reasons; expense and liability being the two off the top of my head.
To expand, where does the liability lie if the 3rd party security gets involve with a confrontation with a patron? Who has the legal vulnerability in such an instance? The Venue? The Event? The Promotor? The person who hired security?.
The venue has hired security, covered by their insurance to deal with these potential issues. We will request more of a security presence on busier nights as well as walk through’s of the events through the night. To keep an eye out for any behavior which doesn’t meet our standard for conduct.
There are camera’s all over the club and if there is an issue best believe the venue has it covered. But we only have so many sets of eyes; your part is, if you see something, if someone is making you uncomfortable, crossing boundaries, touching anyone inappropriately, causing issues on the dancefloor by being inappropriate. You have to let staff know, either during the event, or after if you’re too uncomfortable at the time. But if you bring it to our attention at the time the issue will be addressed.
As part of our focus on meeting the scenes needs, I’d like to introduce you to the new Noize Teknologists Moderators.
